Houston, summer of 1988; NTSU dropouts and local miscreants- Jay Maulsby, Scott Daniels, Rich Tapia and Ben Collis work the Fondren living room as Scott's parents blythely watch TV in the adjoining kitchen. One evening, Josh Kosoy recoils in vegan horror from a dripping barbeque baster, telling Daniels to keep away from him with his "fleshmop". Dick intoduces Jay Maulsby to JR Delgado, proprietor of The Axiom. "We're a cross between Jane's Addiction and King Crimson". *pregnant pause* "... um, cool". Fleshmop drew the attention of some major-label A&R types. If they had been able to complete a record, who knows what may have happened? Screaming Trees, L7, the Awful Truth, Surgery, The legendary Loco Gringos, the Hickoids, Sprawl, de schmog, Dead Horse, Cinco Dudes... the details are getting fuzzy... Rudyards, Fitzgeralds, the Axiom, Washington Avenue Showbar, The Cannibal Club, SXSW, Westheimer Arts Festival, Lexington Street, Jesus Christ Superstar, Public News----> What did it all mean? This was a special time. You could go out on a Monday, and count on a Friday's worth of action. Razed Montrose and gentrified Fifth Ward - All tarted to the tits... but if you lay your ear to the ground on Lexington Street you can still hear the rumble of the wheels coming off. Love and Cheers to you all. If you make it to Seattle, gi's a call. I've got a pint with your name on it...
