It all began in 2001, when Francisco and João Costa, both guitar players, created Formaldehyde. Shortly after, André (bass), Nuno (vocals) and Rita (drums) were drafted. Between2003 and 2005, the band played some live shows and had minor line-up changes: João Duarte filled the vacant place left by João Costa and Sérgio took the drums, when Rita left. In 2005 Nuno and João Duarte left and started a band of their own. We searched for new members and João (guitar) and António (vocals), both of them long time friends, joined the ranks and we kept rehearsing. Soon after, António left and once again we had to look for a new vocalist. Ricardo, a young promising singer, showed up and in a month or so, he had his stage debut. With this formation, we finally recorded a demo, DaimonKinesis, with 4 tracks (Speech of Sand, Dark Notice, Spinal Shivers and Waiting for a Sign), that never saw daylight, and played some live shows, while composing songs for what would later become "Gods Will". During the recording of "Gods Will", Ricardo left the band and a new yet very experienced singer was drafted: Paulo Gonçalves, an old friend and stage partner, showed his interest and we gladly took him. Paulo re-recorded all the voice tracks and "Gods Will", yet unsigned, was released to the great audience via free internet download.
This takes us to the present day: A new dawn for Formaldehyde, with a more mature sound and a somewhat different take on the death metal genre: A mix of old-school and european death metal, with a teaspoon of stoner and a 70's rock feel, that we like to call "Southern Death".
Global warming, draughts, the southern europe feel and the portuguese sorrow and despondency: all of this is quintessential in Formaldehyde's music. By now, everyone has already realised that the future lies in ruins. The 21st Century's aridness takes its form as death metal.
Get ready to withstand a desert storm of heavy riffing with "God's Will"!
We'd like to express our gratitude towards people we like to see as "our team":
- Cristophe, for his tremendous work on our logo;
- Andrea for her gigantic work on the website since the beginning.
- Paulão, for the great work he did recording our album.
- Patrícia, for all her patience and support
- Shell, for her great photos
To all of you, thanks SO very much!
