About me:I was born in Polistena, southern Italy in 1952. I taught myself English by listening to early Beatles and Rolling Stones records before setting off, aged 16, on a tour of Europe that would see me eventually settle in Liverpool in my early 20s.
I trained in photography at Liverpool Art School (now part of the John Moores University) in the the 1970s and went on to manage the Liverpool band Nightmares in Wax later re-named Dead Or Alive. I also set up Black Eyes Records. I became well-known on the Liverpool music and club scene through personal friendships with many local musicians and artists. My photographs record the fashion of the various subcultures in clubland in the pivotal post punk era.
During this time I also developed a career as a rock photographer, capturing on film some of the best known musicians of the time.
My photographs document the iconic Liverpool bands - Echo and the Bunnymen, Teardrop Explodes, Pete Wylie, Jane Casey and Pete Burns - as well as dozens more from elsewhere who were to go on to achieve worldwide fame including The Ramones, The Clash, New Order, U2, Mick Hucknall, Roxy Music.
I was a regular contributor to magazines such as The Face, ID, Melody Maker, NME, Record Mirror, Smash Hits.
