Gwo-Ka, is a form of very complete expression which binds the song,
the dance and the traditional music. It draws its name from the drum
Ka (creole word coming from the quarter of barrel). Gro-Ka is a
musical form appeared with the arrival of the slaves. It is
characterized by the presence of the improvisation of the singers and
the dancers and by the form responsoriale of the songs. It is allowed
that Gro-Ka includes seven basic rhythms:
- The Mindé
- the e Kaladjà
- the Graj
- the Toumblak
- the Woulé
- the Pagenbel
- the Lewoz
The LEWOZ .
Franck Nicolas, virtuoso trumpet player and composer of the Guadeloupe island east at the origin of a new musical current:the jazz ka,which it creates in New York with some of the best West-Indian and
American musicians of the current scene. He is also the heir to modern Gwoka created by one of the founders of this music, Kafé Edouard Ignol which initiated it as of its youth in modern Gwoka. This new musical concept is in perfect adequacy with the values transmitted by
its mentor. It is by integrating the philosophy and the spirit of traditional Gwoka that Franck Nicolas succeeds in creating a very new music, the jazz-ka, born from perfect alchemy between the jazz and the ka, drum of his ancestors slaves. The concept jazz ka gathers the people by the interbreeding, the contribution of sonorities and the instruments come from the East, Africa, Europe, the Caribbean one and the United States. This new music is authentic, original and a message of peace and fraternity.
With his concept jazz ka , Franck opens a new way to us towards a new world. and thus contributes to bring an optimistic musical vision to the humanity of the new millenium.
"DJ Monkey …soul-stirring, excitingly edgy music…just disturbing (read ‘mind-f**king’) enough to demand attention. There is a whole spice rack of auditory flavors here, served up like fractured poetry on a collection of intensely listenable Hallmark cards from Hell." Bill Margold, Cinema Seen, L.A. X..Press
