Fred's Interests
General
I love creating. Whether it's music or a script or a piece of art, the whole process of creating something out of nothing gives me a feeling of unparalleled satisfaction. I also love discovering new things. Finding a new band with a sound I really like or an author who really speaks to me. Life is all about experience and connecting with others through those experiences.
Music
I'm into everything from Led Zeppelin to Willie Nelson. In the last couple years I've gotten into The Killers, Bob Schneider, The Drive-By Truckers, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Jack Johnson, and a bunch of other crap.
Movies
Top 5 favorite movies in no apparent order are:
Jaws,
Fight Club,
The Big Lebowski,
Shakespeare in Love,
and That Thing You Do
Now as for MY movies: Bradanson Fire Department
I'm not a fireman, but I played one on TV!
Paradise, Texas www.paradisetexasthemovie.com
Wish I'd gotten a picture with Timothy Bottoms, but I felt like an idiot asking him to pose with me. (My car got a bigger role than I did in this one. Go figure.)
Television
Always Sunny in Philadelphia is the funniest show on television. I think the new season starts in September on FX, so make sure to check it out. I don't watch much television anymore because it seems like I'm always doing something in the evenings, but when I get the chance I LOVE The Office and I kind of like Criminal Minds.
If you're bored, check out my friends' new family-friendly sitcom. I co-wrote several of the episodes, and we filmed it here in Houston and Conroe. We finished 6 episodes, so maybe one of these days a network will show some interest and send some money our way to make a real show. www.fromtherooftop.net
Books
I haven't been keeping up on my reading. I know, it seems ironic that a writer wouldn't be a reader, but I spend so much time reading newspapers and magazines and blogs that I rarely touch a book. I joined a book club thinking that might help, but I failed to get past chapter 7 of Kite Runner. However, I did finally make it through Angels & Demons, by Dan Brown and Naked, by David Sedaris. Unfortunately, I think our book club has collapsed.
Heroes
I really admire Ralph Nader, and all he's done for consumer advocacy. I have a huge respect for J.K. Rowling and how her books have relaunched modern literacy in a time when it is so needed. However, my greatest her is my dad. If I'm ever lucky enough to settle down and have kids, I hope I can do as good of a job as he did.
I started off on the same path as all my friends. We got through college at Texas A&M. We had a little band. We all embarked on our various career paths. We all met girls. We all got married. They all started families. Somehow I slipped the shackles of supposed marital bliss and ended up divorced.
So I started over. I made new friends. I went back to acting and playing music. I embarked on a new career. Now the next wave of friends is all heading off on various career paths pairing of with various girls to start new lives together. It seems once again this wave of blissful unions is going to elude me. It’s time to make a new group of friends, but unfortunately my growing seniority in the young-single circuit is starting to become more and more awkward and apparent.
Here I am, at the brink of 30. On the upside, I’m finally getting past those “it’s good experience” years of work and starting to really enjoy my career. Last year I got to travel to Finland, Canada and France making documentary films. Not many people can say they’ve traveled the world to make movies. However, it hasn’t been without sacrifices. I used to be an avid musician and actor, and at this point due to scheduling I’ve all but given that up. Believe me, it’s not big loss to film or radio. I am embarking on a new endeavor – something more conducive to being stuck in offices or airports. I’m working on my first book. It’s not as glamorous as writing, directing and starring in my own movie, but it’s a project that fits much better into my time restraints and budget. Besides, look at J.K. Rowling’s house in the Hamptons.
As you may be able to derive from my aforementioned pastimes, I love to create. Whether it’s music, movies, or other digital media, I just get an incredible sense of accomplishment when I’m able to pull something out of my brain and suddenly have something there that wasn’t there before.
I write, eat and throw left-handed, but I shoot, golf and play guitar right-handed.
I have a scar on the end of my nose because I decided to clip a mole off with toenail clippers. I don’t know why. It seemed like a good plan at the time.
My hands and feet sweat profusely when I’m nervous, which is most of the time.
I can’t stand smelling like cigarette smoke, but I can’t stop smoking cigarettes when I’m feeling down and lonely.
All my admirable traits like patience, compassion, and empathy come from my father. All my neuroses and paranoia come from my mother.
I was an avid biker until I totaled my second motorcycle in a five-car pile-up on I-45. When I still couldn’t lift anything with my left hand two months later, I decided I enjoyed having working limbs more than riding motorcycles.
I get really impulsive when I’m drinking, but I’m doing better about not winding up naked.
You scored as James Bond, Agent 007. James Bond is MI6's best agent, a suave, sophisticated super spy with charm, cunning, and a license's to kill. He doesn't care about rules or regulations and somewhat amoral. He does care about saving humanity though, as well as the beautiful women who fill his world. Bond has expensive tastes, a wide knowledge of many subjects, and his usually armed with a clever gadget and an appropriate one-liner.
Who I'd like to meet: People that inspire me to create. True collaboraters. The kind of people that work to shape our world and change our society.
I'd love to meet a woman who actually has her life together -- a degree, a job, a somewhat normal schedule, etc. Someone who knows who she is and what she wants out of life. Someone healthy and active with a love for life.
Your 'about me' section is FANTASTIC! Not like I expected anything less from a literary person like yourself, but I'm just sayin..:)..Yeah..everyone was a little out of character this weekend! Even sweet little Annie!! Haha..too much fun for our own good! Miss you much Fredly!
I loved the video...your sister cracks me up. Her comments seem like the should come straight from an episode of The Office. I agree with Jeremy, "Who cares? Golf sucks. "
so you have dena and heather on your top friends... PLEASE dont even pretend I wasn't secretly your fave bfff!!!!!!!!!! Im angry fred. And frankly, Im tired.
OMG---if I deleted the pic from the L:Transfer drive what on God's green earth would make you think I want it on myspace???? well its your myspace-so whatever!!! anyway MJ (michael jackson-hahahaha) I'll send you the pics I have from my friends cam-they're awesome....
She was a calm, sweet dog and we'll probably compare all dogs to her. She ended up losing 12 pounds in less than a month. Dixie is tempting but I think Michael wants another Pointer. Plus, she would be lost without you. How was your bike ride?
i like to think so. it's one thing that i think i'd be really good at - i'm just not willing to drop everything to be a waitress in l.a. until i'm discovered just yet.
Oh, Fred, you are too kind! Yeah, I haven't been much of a blogger lately. Thinking about starting up again. I'm leaving tomorrow for SXSW! You gonna be there?!
