When Angus Young came up with the name ‘For those about to rock’ for AC/DC’s 1981 rock anthem, he could have easily been describing Frenzy Mono’s musical mindset, except of course, that all of this upcoming Maltese rock band’s members were still in their diapers back then! Being too young to experience the original 1960’s and 1970’s rock scene only made it all the more significant for Frenzy Mono’s four members to totally immerse themselves into blues and rock, digging deeper into the past for inspiration and enlightenment.
Formed in the late 1990’s when they were still star-struck students messing about in their DIY rehearsal space, Frenzy Mono really took off once its members discovered they shared a deep passion for the classic rock of the 1970’s. Absorbing any and every rocking guitar riff, drum beat and bass line that stood out above the rest, the band has gone on to develop its own brand of ‘retro’ rock, more importantly without succumbing to any one particular influence. Their debut album Unorthodox pretty much summed up the band in its title as much as it did in the riveting diversity of its 11 tracks. Critically acclaimed, reviews of the CD looked like an A-Z of rock with all the references that were thrown about, and yet not one of them managed to hone the band’s music down to one particular sound!
A particularly important factor that has helped make Frenzy Mono one of the island’s top-flight rock acts is the band’s vigorous live routine, which has landed them prestigious support slots for the likes of The Animals and Robert Plant and The Strange Sensation. Fronted by Jordan, whose voice has been described as one of the most robust in Malta’s rock scene, the band is energetic to say the least – a blend of music powerhouse and onstage presence fused together with a hard-edged passion for rock ‘n roll!
