In the summer of 2005 visual artist Dulce Pinzon and independent curator Aldo Sanchez (aka Dj Papichulo) created Fresa Salvaje Productions; an initiative set to expose music, culture and visuals from Mexico and beyond.
Since it's inception, Fresa Salvaje vowed to bring an alternative to the mainstream "Latino scene" [salsa, merengue, regueton, etc.] by avoiding musical redundancy and instead focusing on new, classic and rare musical Spanish-sung gems.
What you can expect to hear: psychedelic oldies, mambo, kitschy heart breaking ballads, cumbias, Mexican wedding songs, telenovelas themes and scores, punk, new wave, 60's and 70's rock and roll covers + much more! Every event is accompanied by visuals of Mexican-born California based artist Juan Luna Avin. Avin takes our patrons through a visual journey using iconic images that define Mexican culture and society. A definite must see for any visual enthusiast.
Our parties have been acknowledge by the mainstream media in articles in the New York Times, New York Magazine, NY Remezcla to mention some and have helped as a platform for International presence to some artist like: Instituto Mexicano del Sonido [Noise Lab, National Records], Maria Daniela y su Sonido Lasser [EMI y Nuevos Ricos], Zemmoa y La Prohibida from Spain, DJ Lasser gun #1 [Emilio Acevedo], Sonido Apokalitzin, Aliguagua, Afrodike y DJ Guaguis.
We have had our parties in Brooklyn where the party was originally created, La Esquina restaurant [Pre Latin Grammy’s party], Delancey in NYC, El Pasaguero Mexico City [party for MACO, Mexico Contemporary art fair], Puebla Mexico, The Museum of Contemporary art of Chicago etc.
Fresa Salvaje will always bring you the best and most sophisticated Mexican and Latin American music to make you dance, sing, cry and remember the good ol' days!!!
