Fulton Read is one of those bands that wants it all- your attention, your respect, your mind and maybe your heart- with the hope that you will realize those timeless moments that music brings are priceless. This free spirit reaches back to their early years when they sang, "How the music made us feel, its worth nothing they can steal." Now full circle, Fulton Read has embraced its childhood values and any music fan can agree- the Best Things in Life are FREE.
After four years of recording, promoting, releasing and playing, Fulton Read has turned its back on music business as usual and determined themselves to release all their new music for FREE.
Since the summer of 2004, armed with their first free hand pressed EP, Fulton Read has made piano pop you can’t help but sing-a-long to and people welcomed the good vibes. It took just a taste of the crowd’s energy to awaken this sleeping giant. They have been in forward motion ever since.
Over the next few years, shifting from hometown the Woodlands, TX to collegetown San Marcos, TX, they put out two releases “How Rocks Become Mountains” and “Out of the Woods” that with independent promotion and support together have sold over 1500 copies. Garnering radio airplay in the Woodlands, Austin, San Marcos and other college towns across TX, Fulton Read stands poised for a Texas takeover. They have had the privilege to play with some great touring acts- Limbeck, Circa Survive and the Format- and rock some of Texas’ great venues- Emo’s, Antone’s, Ridglea Theater and the Warehouse Live.
Now based out of Austin, Fulton Read has refined their lineup to the jamming/writing/producing duo of Stephen Duffy and Anthony Erickson. They have assembled a top-notch cast of Austin musicians to back them up including- Justin Von Kennel (guitar), Ryan Gilmore (bass), Austin’s own Hellfire Horns, back up singers- Candy Sanders and Joshua Ello also on strings- creating a sonically diverse live show to complement their already catchy songs.
Returning to their re-found freedom with their newest free EP, “Indivisualize", their catalog gets a big boost in diversity with funky jazz breakdowns, improv jams and trippy segues, all next to a piano pop hook. They took a page from the book of hip-hop enlisting multiple producers- CJ Eiriksson (Matchbox Twenty, Jack's Mannequin), Will Hoffman (Flyleaf, Sounds Under Radio) and Rory Phillips (Impossibles, Recover, Young Love)- to make an adventurous EP. And in the spirit of the download era, Fulton Read is once again encouraging fans to spread this release like wildfire, hopefully make it out to some shows, maybe buy a t-shirt or two but most importantly to "indivisualize" themselves- see who you want to be and be it.
Fulton Read has learned well from their Texas roots- GO BIG or GO HOME- be it the live orchestra collaboration they pulled off while still in high school, their self-run Texas tour, or singer/songwriter Anthony Erickson making the "irresponsible" move by selling his newly inherited 2007 Saturn Ion to make this record and set the wheels in motion (quite literally a tour van) for the Best Things in Life are FREE Tour.
