www.FungLam.com

Fung Lam is a composer, arranger and cellist, whose output ranges from original concert and media works to various arrangements for indie bands to orchestras, sometimes involving both Western and Chinese instruments.

With the premiere of his 23-minutes orchestral work Unlocking in May 2008 by the BBC Concert Orchestra and Charles Hazlewood, he became the youngest Chinese composer ever to have received a commission from the BBC. The premiere was broadcast on a BBC Radio 3’s Discovering Music programme dedicated to his music in January 2009.

His music has been performed around the world, including festivals such as the Cheltenham Music Festival, BASBWE International Wind Festival, Soundwaves Festival, Second Glance Festival, BBC Electric Proms (collaboration with The All New Adventures of Us), Musicarama Festival (Hong Kong), Le French May Festival (Hong Kong), as well as Asian Composers’ League Asian Music Festivals in Japan, Israel and New Zealand. Performers of his music have included the London Symphony Orchestra, BBC Philharmonic, BBC Concert Orchestra (original compositions as well as a Sigur Ros arrangement), New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, Tokyo Kosei Wind Orchestra, Hong Kong Sinfonietta, Hong Kong Festival Wind Orchestra, RNCM Wind Band, Carducci Quartet, Grenzenlos, Halcyon, Ensemble TIMF, Silk String Quartet, Chamber Music Company, and cellist Frances-Marie Uitti.

He has also provided music for the Japanese play Festival for the Fish (2004) in London, the RTHK TV documentary series Weather III (2005), and Philharmonia Orchestra’s virtual orchestra installation at the South Bank Centre in London in 2006.

His music has received broadcasts on BBC Radio 3, Radio New Zealand, and Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK) Radio 4, where he has worked as a guest presenter specialising in contemporary music.

Forthcoming commissions include a new orchestral work to be performed at the Shanghai World Expo 2010.

Please see his website for details - www.FungLam.com

As a cellist, he has performed with various orchestras, ensembles, bands and experimental artists.

AROUND THIS HOUSE - HAPPENING IN THE LIBRARY
THURSDAY 16TH JULY 6:30 - 7:30pm
SHOREDITCH LIBRARY, 80 HOXTON STREET

Come and see a library like you have never seen it before!
Watch the books as they watch you, while actors, dancers, musicians and artists make their own journeys, finding their way around their surreal house of words...
Sit down, walk around, get as close as you wish to the action, as every corner you turn reveals a new surprise and if you are feeling brave - join in!

I had a chance finally to sit and listen to your music today. Absolutely wonderful orchestrations. Through all of the complexity of notes, you achieve a sound that leads the listener right to an open, spacious place. I look forward to hearing more. Best regards, Stan.
