About Funk-Totum[in compilation con Elio eLST-vedi blog]
Il progetto Funk-Totum nasce dalla volontà di unire più generi musicali, mantenendo il funky come filo conduttore; le canzoni sono eterogenee tra loro ma presentano sempre dei richiami al Funk.
L’idea di fondare la band è nata nell’Agosto 2007: i due chitarristi, Andrea Billi e Tristano Cinelli, insoddisfatti delle loro band pensarono di fondarne una insieme, con l’unico obiettivo di divertirsi. Entrambi amavano il funky; uno stile che garantisce libertà creativa e divertimento, condito da ritmiche coinvolgenti. L’incontro con gli altri membri della band porterà lo stile verso la direzione del funky-rock, con influenze elettro-funk e progressive in alcuni brani. La necessità di una base ritmica efficace e creativa, portò all’ingresso nella band del bassista Fabio Fabbriciani e del batterista Lorenzo Giannini. La ricerca di una voce potente ma allo stesso tempo essenziale ha infine unito la strada dei Funk-Totum con quella di Andrea Pennati, cantante, chitarrista (classico e acustico) e tastierista.
Tutti i membri della band hanno avuto esperienze precedenti con altri gruppi e si sono subito indirizzati verso la creazione di brani originali. Tra l’inverno 2007 e l’estate 2008 la band si è esibita molte volte in locali aretini (Double Music, ora Karemaski), festival (Fuorionda a Foiano della Chiana, PD contest a Terranova Bracciolini - dove sono risultati primi classificati– e Marciano Art Contest) riscuotendo sempre notevole apprezzamento dalla giuria tecnica e dal pubblico. Stessa calda accoglienza in occasione di inaugurazioni e feste organizzate dai Comuni di Arezzo e Capolona o di associazioni culturali locali.
Il loro brano Politaction è stato selezionato per entrare a far parte della compilation “Funk-In-Italia” curata da Bobby Soul ed Ernesto de Pascale - presentata in occasione del Meeting Etichette Indipendenti 2008; i Funk-Totum sono la band più giovane della compilation che raccoglie i migliori artisti funk italiani.
Nel marzo 2009 la band ha concluso l’incisione di un primo demo di 5 brani presso il Gravestudio di Marco Graverini.
Nel maggio 2009 il batterista Lorenzo ha dovuto lasciare la band per motivi di studio, il suo posto è stato preso da Marco Fanciullini.
Nel Giugno 2009 la band ha vinto il concorso nazionale “Allinfo festival sezione funkfunk” sul portale www.allinfo.it tra numerose funk band italiane; la band si è esibita il 1 luglio a Roma al Walla Walla Live in occasione della serata di premiazione del concorso: accanto a grandi nomi del panorama funk quali Bobby Soul & The Les Gastones.
Il 4 e il 5 luglio 2009 la band si è esibita al Marciano Art Contest di Marciano della Chiana dove è risultata vincitrice sia per la giuria tecnica che per quella popolare. Proprio grazie a questa vittoria hanno suonato il 23 Luglio al Main Stage del Play Art Festival di Arezzo come band di apertura alla Bandabardò; sempre grazie a questa parteciperanno alle semifinali nazionali di Sanremo Rock (novembre 2009) e di Italia Wave 2010.

Nel tardo settembre 2009 la band ha completato l'incisione di un nuovo brano, con il nuovo batterista Marco, che ha visto per la prima volta l'utilizzo della lingua italiana, il brano è ascoltabile sia nella versione italiana (Strade per Fantàsia) sia in quella inglese (The Dwarf). Proprio questo brano nella sua versiona italiana è stato selezionato per entrare a fare parte di una compilation italiana antologica sul funk dagli anni '70 a oggi edita da Cramps Records.
Nella stessa compilation ci sono grandi nomi della musica italiana quali Elio e le Storie Tese, Tullio de Piscopo, Patty Pravo, Pino Daniele e tanti altri.

The name Funk-Totum recalls the idea of motley styles always supported with a Funky body: this is the starting point of every song, then each one takes a different way of developement so that they have different characters but with an always present recall to the Funk style.
The idea to form this band was born in August 2007 in Arezzo (Italy) by the idea of the two guitar players.
Their intention was to build up a band with an only .. have a lot of fun!
So they decided to play funky music which guarantees creative freedom and amusement, all dressed up with rhythmical involving.
The meeting with the other members of the band led the style in a funky-rock direction, with elettro-funk and progressive influences in some tracks.
All the band's members had previous experiences in other bands and immediately began to write original songs.
They played a lot around Arezzo during the next spring and summer in festivals, pubs, and other occasions and they also won some festivals thanks to very good judgements by technical panels.
Their song "Politaction" was chosen to be part of the compilation "Funk-in-Italy" for MEI (independent labels meeting) 2008 managed by Ernesto de Pascale and Bobby Soul; besides the band is the youngest band of the “Funk-In-Italy” movement, in fact they have between 21 and 24 years old.
In March 2009 the band finished the recording of a first self-producted Demo with 5 original songs.
In may 2009 the drummer Lorenzo had to leave the band for study reasons, his place was taken by Marco Fanciullini.
In June 2009 the band won the “Allinfo radio festival funkfunk” , an Italian national contest, against a lot of professional or semi-professional Italian funk bands; thanks to that the band played on 1st July at Walla Walla Live in Rome for the prize-giving of the competition near to one of the more important Italian funk bands, Bobby Soul & The Les Gastones, and obtained great appreciations.
On 4th and 5th July the band played at Marciano Art Contest and won the first prize – voted both by technical and popular panel – against 9 other bands.
This victory permits the band to play at the main stage of Play Art Festival 2009 as opening band of Bandabardò on 23th July and lets them attend to Sanremo rock 2009 and Italia Wave 2010.
The band appeared two times on newspapers in full-page articles thanks to the great appreciations received: the first on 14th December 2008 and the second on 8th July 2009 (you can read these articles on the myspace’s blog of the band). In late september 2009 the band completed the recording of a new track with the new drummer Marco available in two different versions, one with italian lyrics (Strade per Fantàsia) and one with english lyrics (The Dwarf). Both versions of the song are on myspace's player. The italian version of the song has been chosen to be part of an italian compilation (edited by Cramps Records) which should represent the italian funk from the '70 to nowadays. In the same CD there are a lot of famous italian bands and singers like Elio e le Storie Tese, Tullio de Piscopo, Patty Pravo, Pino Daniele and many more.
