Fuzzcat, Vancouver’s funk-filled reggae rock attack, has been exploding Western Canadian dance floors since 2006. Danceable rhythms, infectious lyrics, and provocative musical arrangements have earned them a growing reputation as one of Vancouver's most exciting emerging bands. Charismatic, high-energy performances draw comparisons to the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Manu Chao and Sublime, but the band has diverse influences which range from hip-hop to punk.
Fuzzcat is a mainstay at Vancouver’s Media Club and Railway Club and has made four tours of the Rockies, playing Sun Peaks Resort Mountain Bike Festival, and venues such as The Drake in Canmore and The Rose and Crown in Banff. They also organize their own shows at the ANZA Club, the (old) Sweatshop, and other venues playing sold-out nights with local favorites Freeflow, Los Furios, The Dreadnoughts, Mongoose, as well as bringing in international acts like La Severa Matacera from Bogota, Colombia and Maskatesta from Mexico City. Fuzzcat also hosts a monthly Monday at the legendary Railway Club where they showcase their acoustic side alongside stripped down versions of great local acts ranging from hardcore punk to singer-songwriter.
The Lads have performed on 'Live from Radio Thunderbird Hell' on UBC Radio and on Radio Bandcouver on 102.7, Co-op Radio, both electric and acoustically. In the spring of 2007, Fuzzcat released their first album, Impact!, with a sold-out show at the Media Club. Two songs from the album were featured in the 2007 documentary The Five Ring Circus, a Work Less Party production about the 2010 Olympics.
24 Hrs. newspaper in Vancouver describes the band as having “...hooky grooves, catchy lyrics, and rug-cutting riffs.”
Mace from Ronatron.net writes, “Fuzzcat had their mighty legion of fans out of their seats with the quickness. Moreso than any other band of the night, Fuzzcat seamlessly shifted gears and tore through a plethora of genres, all the while mixing up a crazy mix of very tight and technical instrument solos with one-wheel-in-the-dirt jam sessions.”
I wish this brief letter was about asking you to join us there in B.C. for the shows we had booked with the Victoria B.C. Ska Society. It is a shame for us to announce that unfortunately it won’t happen this time, and we consider our responsibility to explain the reasons since you deserve to know and we owe you huge respect. As some of you might know we were scheduled to play in Nanaimo Victoria and Vancouver this week. However there appeared last minute situations which did not allowed us to fly, situations which were out of our reach since there was one of our passports missing and this is the time that our drummer does not know anything about his documents. We could not purchase tickets with a missing passport and required visas. We hope you understand that we tried to make it happen but this fact stepped on our way. Also we want you to know that Dane Roberts from the Victoria Ska Fest, Simon Shachner from Musica Rebelde (CHLY 101.7 FM) in Nanaimo and Christopher Patrick from the band Fuzzcat in Vancouver are serious and professional people and made everything they could to support us but the situation was also out of their reach. We know things happen for a reason and tough we are very ashamed of missing this opportunity to play for you and we feel we are in huge debt with you, we know life will bring us back there really soon and we will have an unforgettable endless party. We expect you to keep the support to us and to this great people who are Dane, Simon and Christopher and their staff who are real warriors and unstoppable fighters which day by day keep alive the underground world of ska and reggae music.
