Playing funk-rock with generous portions of ska, reggae, and punk, Fuzzcat is known for diverse sets that keep the crowd moving. Formed in 2006 by singer/guitarist Chris Ryan, lead guitarist Ted Campbell, bassist Dave Wise, and drummer Jeff Carter, the group has become a fixture on the Vancouver music scene. Fully independent, Fuzzcat regularly books their own shows at the Anza Club and has two monthly shows in Vancouver: The first Friday at Malone’s downtown, where they join the best of Vancouver’s party-music crowd, and the second Monday at the legendary Railway Club, where they play stripped-down acoustic sets and invite diverse groups from many scenes and styles.
Fuzzcat tours the Rockies, the Okanagan, and Vancouver Island, and is currently looking to broaden their reach to the Western US and Europe. Notable shows have been the Sun Peaks Mountain Bike Festival of 2007, regular three-night stands at the Rose and Crown in Banff, and a late night after-party for an oil baron in Red Deer, Alberta. In November Fuzzcat will play shows as part of the festivities for the Grey Cup.
Fuzzcat’s second album of all original songs is fully recorded and will be released in early 2010. The video for one song from the album, Emergency, can be found on Youtube. Fuzzcat’s first album, Impact!, was released in 2006 and is now in its second printing. Two songs from the album were featured in the 2007 documentary The Five Ring Circus, a Work Less Party production about the 2010 Olympics. Their songs receive regular airplay on the Bandcouver show on Co-op Radio, 102.7 and on Ska-T’s Scenic Drive on UBC Radio. They have performed live on both stations, both electric and acoustic.
With comparisons to the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Manu Chao, and Sublime, and by playing covers by Matisyahu, Bob Marley, and the Dead Kennedys, Fuzzcat hopes to bring it on for fans of all kinds of music who enjoy dancing and getting wild.
Hey bros , awesome time on saturday , it was good to get to play with you guys ! Party vibes were rad. Thanks again for having us out , we will get some more shows together soon. Cheeers dudes!
I wish this brief letter was about asking you to join us there in B.C. for the shows we had booked with the Victoria B.C. Ska Society. It is a shame for us to announce that unfortunately it won’t happen this time, and we consider our responsibility to explain the reasons since you deserve to know and we owe you huge respect. As some of you might know we were scheduled to play in Nanaimo Victoria and Vancouver this week. However there appeared last minute situations which did not allowed us to fly, situations which were out of our reach since there was one of our passports missing and this is the time that our drummer does not know anything about his documents. We could not purchase tickets with a missing passport and required visas. We hope you understand that we tried to make it happen but this fact stepped on our way. Also we want you to know that Dane Roberts from the Victoria Ska Fest, Simon Shachner from Musica Rebelde (CHLY 101.7 FM) in Nanaimo and Christopher Patrick from the band Fuzzcat in Vancouver are serious and professional people and made everything they could to support us but the situation was also out of their reach. We know things happen for a reason and tough we are very ashamed of missing this opportunity to play for you and we feel we are in huge debt with you, we know life will bring us back there really soon and we will have an unforgettable endless party. We expect you to keep the support to us and to this great people who are Dane, Simon and Christopher and their staff who are real warriors and unstoppable fighters which day by day keep alive the underground world of ska and reggae music.
