This German quartet's funk metal style comes across as a heavier and more explosive version of No Doubt's ska-influenced rock. Comprising Sandra Nasic (vocals), Henning Rümenapp (guitar), Stefan Ude (bass), Dennis Poschwatta (drums), Guano Apes originally formed during 1994 in their home-town of Goettingen, Germany. Influenced by Primus and the Red Hot Chili Peppers, the quartet's first break came two years after their formation, when they took the top spot at a Local Heroes competition held by VIVA (Germany's leading music television station). Shortly thereafter, Guano Apes issued a single, "Open Your Eyes", that became a substantial hit in Germany, peaking inside the Top 10. Their debut, Proud Like A God, was released in 1997, but it was not until two years later that it was issued in America. After several other singles were issued in their homeland (establishing the band as one of Germany's top rock acts), Guano Apes issued their second album, Don't Give Me Names.
