For the past half century Muscle Shoals, Alabama has produced some of the finest musicians of our day. From W.C. Handy to Percy Sledge and the immortal Muscle Shoals Rhythm Sections otherwise known as "The Swampers." Muscle Shoals has always been a hotbed of talent. Gary Nichols is the next in line of the great Muscle Shoals songwriting performers. Even though he is only 26 years old Gary has been playing professionally for nearly 15 years. As a teenager Gary played with his uncle Larry Condrey who subbed on gigs for the legendary Muscle Shoals guitar great Travis Wammack.
In 2002 Gary helped create the first "FAME Tuesday Music Club", which consisted of bringing in young talent to develop their recording, performing and songwriting talents in the confines of historic FAME Studios. Gary took advantage of this opportunity to impress everyone at FAME with his work ethic and raw talent. In February of 2004 Gary signed a publishing deal with FAME Publishing Company. Since then his name has spread like wildfire through writing circles and the record labels of Nashville. He is currently recording his debut album for Muscle Shoals Records, which should be released sometime early 2008. Gary still lives in his hometown of Florence, AL and spends his time off there with his lovely two children Claire 5 and Trey 4.
From Muscle Shoals to Music Row the talk is always the same, "Gary Nichols Rocks!"
Good morning Mr. Nichols! Enjoyed the music last night, as usual. Maybe next time we need to set up a spill-proof barrier for the guitar cases? LOL...have a great day, see ya next time!
Gary--I went out to eat last night and heard UnBroken Ground playing in the restaurant. I love "Coming of Age" and "Down South" from your limited CD. Thanks so much for the great music.
