George Lynch, Megadeth, Testament, Joe Satriani, Dream Theater, Iron Maiden, Grip Inc., Children of Bodom, and countless other guitar heavy bands/players.
Sounds Like
The instrumental stuff sounds like Joe Satriani, if he were influenced by the Bay Area Thrash Scene around him in the late eighties. The vocal stuff has bits of Testament, Megadeth and Coopersmith's "Not Brown Ale" in it.

After releasing 2 awesome all-instrumental CDs, GasHead marches to a furious war-beat on the new vocal CD, The Isolationist. It is no stretch to claim that the release should compete most favorably for metal CD of the year. The disc is brimming with thundering technical drum prowess, crushing vocals, lean and mean bass-riffing, and thick, imposing guitar volleys. Each song brings out a new character of the band. Mature and thoughtful lyrics describe facets of post-911 America, a proud but burdened landscape, mulling its rightful place in the world. GasHead explores the themes of economic warefare and strife (Dissolve), the almost unfathomable dark capablities of the worst in society (Juarez), cyber-terrorism (1s/0s), the need for leaders who unite instead of dividing (Speak and Divide), a critique of those who own dangerous breeds as an extension of their own dangerous mind (Summer of Man's Best Friend), among others. Truely a landmark Colorado release. GasHead is hitting clubs as you read, bent on spreading the awesome metal of The Isolationist.
I get asked a lot about the significance and meaning behind the artwork of the CD. It seems the more I look at it, the more meaning starts to hit me. This is how I would explain it today...
The flag of the Isolationist: The cover features a flag that is clearly an American flag, slightly translucent and torn, cobbled together using ones and zeros for the 50 stars and parts of the Japanese naval flag to make up the red and white stripes. The ones and zeros reference our song about cyber-terrorism and serve to underline the fact that our nation's conscience is shaped by the events of 911...even if those were acts of a different type of terror. The idea of weaving the Japanese flag in was intriguing to me because I saw simliar historical parallels in terms of cross-roads between the 2 nations. Going back to the days of the Samuri, Japan was a very closed society who had isolationist tendencies when it came to the rest of the world. Not long after the nation opened up, its policies tended towards imperialism (WW2). After it's defeat in WW2 and up until today, Japan has largly been a very pacifistic country. The United States great awakening, can be argued, came after its victory in WW2. Prior to the war and even halfway through it, the US was an isolationist country, before being pulled into it. Several decades of global influence, and questionable international policies later, it can be said that we are drifting closer to a uniquely defined form of imperialism. Now we are at a crossroads. Where does the nation go from here? What character will we show the world and what will be our standing in it? Just like the major shifts that Japan has experienced, the United States needs to confront itself and figure out who or what it will be.
So this is the flag of the Isolationist...a person who, understandably, would rather withdraw from the world for a while. Terrorism, SARS, bird-flu, decline of the dollar, dependance on foriegn oil, war on insurgents...it all starts to overwhelm the average citizen. Although I don't believe the United States should become an isolated county again, I certainly understand the sentiment. In a world with a joke of a UN, there still needs to be a leader. Prefably one who doesn't speak and divide and conquer.
Heady stuff. I appologize. (Mike 2-20-08)
