"....Giulio Carmassi's fun, jazzy score is a key element that helps the film exude a loose energy, making it effortless to sit through even though its impact, both dramatically and comically, is minor..."
Entertainment Insiders
In love with jazz and romantic orchestral music since he was 12, Giulio Carmassi has moved from Florence, Italy to Los Angeles in 2004.
He started playing drums at the age of 7 and has since graduated as a classical pianist, as a recording engineer, as a film composer (has even graduated at UCLA in film and TV to get a better grasp of the film industry), has studied with the best european jazz players, and has learned to play, year after year, pretty much every instrument in the orchestra with the exception of bowed strings.
After his experience playing bass in a rock band signed with AM records (then Geffen, then interscope), he has worked first as an arranger/pianist for Golden Globe nominee Emmy Rossum (phantom of the opera) and then after scoring the award winning indie feature "Let Them Chirp Awhile" (the movie has had glowing reviews from Variety and Village Voice. It has almost 80 minutes of wall to wall jazzy orchestral music, ala Nino Rota and Gershwin), decided to focus his career on film music.
Giulio Carmassi's music has, over the past few years, won or been finalist in numerous national and international competitions. (the USA songwriting competition (twice), LA music awards(best RnB album with singer Amiena), UK songwriting contest, among others).
His style and experience ranges from old time orchestral jazz, to serious classical music, to modern electronic pop, to punk music.
Carmassi has recently scored 16 shorts for famous painter/sculptor/director Leza Lidow. All the music was orchestral jazz, inspired by artists like Henry Mancini and Les Baxter. (her shorts are starting already to win awards)
Carmassi has been asked to play live on the main Italian network RAIUNO, has been seen on America's Got Talent, and has played with his jazz band for the Los Angeles Philarmonic.
