October 24, 2004.. Reviewer: ..inloveinfrance.... Overall: ***** 5 stars.. Pros: creative. brave. beautiful. earthy.. Cons: must actually listen to understand - like Art Blakey.. I first met George Koller when he was touring Alberta with the Shuffle Demons. Not only is he an interesting man but I found his bass-playing to be incredibly unique. He's such an amazing musician, he's performed and recorded with many Canadian greats in both jazz and pop as well as everything in between. I'm very surprised that I'm the first to review him for Yahoo!.. Music for Plants, Animals and Humans is not an easy listening album; without reading the liner notes I'd guess that his biggest influence is mother earth. (He uses western and world instrumentation to emote her depths into translated sound.) It is raw and lovely - evocatively subtle meets primal scream therapy... You should own Music for Plants, Animals and Humans because:.. 1. It's both meaningful and skilled music - these two attributes are not necessarily easy to find in a single artists capabilities.. 2. It makes for great conversation.. 3. You are supporting the finer elements of Canadian musical art.. 4. It's obscure enough (yet well connected) to have a fantasic "cool" factor.
