Jim Wright is the quirky guy who loves a good laugh. Jim has a love of music that has seen him take up many instruments, including the guitar, piano and of course his first love, the drums. Jim has taught drumming, played in orchestras and been part of marching bands. Jim is also an amazing vocalist who sings killer harmonies and brilliant leads. If ever the term born to entertain could describe someone, it’s Mark McDonell. From the age of 12 he’s been perfecting his guitar playing with every chord. Blessed with a musical family Mark spent countless hours in the basement playing with his brother Mike and dreaming of the big time. Since its inception Mark has always been the front man of Ambush. With a million dollar smile and a voice rich with the tone of a thousand smoke filled bars Mark has lived country music every second of his life. Ambush, "Canada's Rockin Country Band" has been delivering their own brand of high-octane country music since 1993. The trio of Mark McDonell, Riq Turner, and Jim Wright are a dynamic group of performers who share an unprecedented combination of talent, experience, and contagious enthusiasm.
Famous for their live shows, Ambush have built an intensely loyal fan base in Eastern Ontario and Western Quebec. The Ambush Army is a quarter of a million fans strong and still growing! Performing more than 250 shows per year, and having performed to over 1,000,000 people in the past five years, Ambush continues to captivate crowds of all ages.
With the release of their newest CD "i wanna go home with you," Ambush is now making its presence felt nationally with solid airplay from major radio stations across the country. Produced by CCMA producer of the year Rick Hutt and featuring tracks co-written with Thomas Wade and Jamie Warren, "i wanna go home with you" has been getting rave reviews from music industry people and fans alike.
Ambush was featured in, and won, the first season of the new reality TV series called "Plucked" which aired on CMT Canada this past fall. "Plucked" showcased acts that CMT Canada believes will shape the future of Canadian country music. The show included the making of the video for their first single "this could be the night" which is now in heavy rotation on CMT. As part of the show, Ambush has won the opportunity to produce a second video and is currently getting ready for that.
Ambush has been recently recognized by their peers in the music business by garnering several nominations for the 2006 Canadian Country Music Association awards.
