Communion began in 2006 at The Notting Hill Arts Club, always taking place on the 1st Sunday of the month. The concept was to offer an alternative to the normal working weekend, where people could come and spend their final hours of freedom meeting and listening to an array of bands and DJs.
The night has seen the likes of Laura Marling, Noah and The Whale, Mumford and Sons, JJ Pistolet, Alan Pownall, Alessi's Ark, Cherbourg and Peggy Sue grace the stage and has developed a strong association with London's burgeoning folk scene, although according with its agenda of eclecticness, Communion has also hosted acts as diverse as Suede, The Holloways, Example, Esser, James Yuill, Post War Years, Exlovers and Josh Weller. As its reputation grew over the months and word began to spread, guests such as Kate Nash, Sophie Ellis Bextor, Badly Drawn Boy, Keane, The Cribs and The Feeling all popped in check out various acts and by 2008 the night was reguarly selling out, which culminated in a Communion all day festival where the Arts Club floor was covered in real grass, with an indoor barbeque and a full days worth of bands to create the most unique London 'festival' of the year.
In 2009 Communion is still going from strength to strength, with the night hosting an event at the Camden Crawl as well as being on the committee, and a new night starting up in Brighton in April.
