Lee Iaccoca recalls how his father took him to see the Statue of Liberty as a child. He deeply regrets that he never took his own children. But Iacocca, 78, the retired Auto Executive, made up for that as Chairman of the Statue of Liberty Ellis Island Foundation, raising more than $500 million to restore those two landmarks. A new book, Liberty for All (Miller) with text by Iaccoca, tells the restoration story. "The statue is a symbol that stands out in our world," says Iaccoca. "We got more than 10,000 letters from Europe telling us it represents the kind of country we have. We've got to cherish our freedom and teach our kids not to take it for granted. "
