With the release of their banging So So Def/ Island Urbandebut single ''Booty Music'',
the diverse 4 man powerhouse 'Git Fresh' has transformed the hometown
heat of 'Miami/Ft. Lauderdale into scorching grooves. ''Our song Booty Music is one
of the tracks that we recorded while we were between labels'' says primary producer
''Rude Boi''. Though I do most of the production, all the group members contribute
to the lyrics and vocal arrangements. ''We are our own worst critics, so we have no
problem trashing a song if it ain't up to par.'' Originally formed when the boys were
still teenagers singing at local talent shows and performing at parties around the city.
With the exception of South African born ''Pretti Sly'', ''Rude Boi'', 'Mike Ezay'' and
''Penny'' call steamy South Florida home. Git Fresh is far from the manufactured
groups of the past. ''We got a track list that spans bout 10 years'' explains Mike Ezay.
''We work real well together, it's just natural.'' Formally signed to Jive Records, the
group once called Deep Side changed their name soon after splitting with their label.
''We wanted a new beggining, a fresh start, and Git Fresh is as energetic as we've
always been.'' Mike Ezay finishes. Indeed that energy can be felt in the electro bounce
of ''Booty Music ''. A hypnotic dance track that is bound to be the song of the summer.
''We recorded that song down in Atlanta, and somehow it leaked to a few radio
stations'', explains Rude Boi. ''At the time we were parting with Jive and other labels
came looking for us, and Booty Music became our calling card''. So So Def/ Island
Urban president Jermaine Dupree became one of Git Fresh’s early fans and brought
the boys to NYC for a showcase with Island/ Def Jam chairman Antonio 'L.A.' Reid.
After the guys auditioned in L.A.'s plush New York office, L.A. and J.D. knew they had
something special. ''Though there were other labels interested in us, we signed with
So So Def/ Island Urban because we felt they were more artist driven''.
Recalls Pretti Sly. Git Fresh felt at home the moment they walked through the door.
Having formed their own production company ''Studio Monkeyz'', the group
immediately retreated back home to begin recording their self-titled debut. ''We been
honing our skills for years, explains Penny. It was as if we put ourselves in boot camp.
In our early days it was rough, but we stuck together through all the negative energy
and hard times''. Citing various artists from DeBarge to Jodeci, from Prince to The
Temptations as aural influences Git Fresh works from a harmonic paint palate of many
colors to create their impressionistic soul. So while the group can wild out on songs
like ''Booty Music'' and ''Naked''. They can slow down the pace on joints like
''Dis Right Here'' and ''Blow Me A Kiss''. Smiling Penny says ‘‘as a group we're real
excited about where our music is going''. Though we make slamming club joints, we
also like to create ballads that give us a chance to show heart felt emotions. One
such stand out is ''Cheater''. Our sound represents all that is culturally diverse in music.
