Castles in the Sand
Why do people spend so much time in the sand?
On their knees, getting dirty, and for what?
The longer they spend building something so grand,
just to be washed away in a second by the tide.
Maybe it's the rush of creating something new,
the excitement of not knowing what you'll get,
the joy of standing back and marveling at what's done.
getting compliments from people you just met.
I see people build castles everyday,
though they don't all finish what they start
it takes time, patience, experience, dedication
and to get to the end, it takes lots of heart.
I walk on the beach looking for the right place
not confident enough to stake a claim
will I get to finish or get stopped along the way
I won't know unless I try.
I have yet to walk along the beach and find the perfect spot
a place to call my own, my little piece of land
I want to feel that joy, that excitement, that rush
I'd like to someday build my own castle in the sand.
