Giuseppe Finocchiaro, pianista, compositore, arrangiatore.
Nasce nel 1965 a Catania, ed inizia, all’etá di sette anni, lo studio del pianoforte classico, che presto abbandona, perché attratto dalla musica improvvisata e dalla composizione.
Dopo aver frequentato i seminari in Umbria della Berkeely School di Boston e seguito i Corsi della Scuola di Perfezionamento Musicale di Siena "CPM", si trasferisce a Bologna dove risiederá per piú di dieci anni, iniziando una interessante collaborazione con il Quintetto “ Inno“, poi diventato trio, con il quale incide nel 89 “Insonnie” per la Splasc(h) Records, inizia cosi una serie di concerti in giro per le cittá europee, da segnalare la partecipazione nel 91 al Festival Jazz di Carlovy Vary Praga.
Pur rimanendo legato al Jazz non rinnega il pianismo classico, anzi, ricerca un incontro tra i due stili che lo porterá a sviluppare una tecnica pianistica che puó definirsi di stampo Jazzistico europeo, con chiare influenze minimaliste ed etniche.
Tra il 90/93 svolge la propria attivitá al fianco di vari artisti Italiani e Stranieri, nel 94 insieme al trombettista Roy Paci crea il progetto “Taranta”, nel quale partecipano artisti di spicco come, Sergio Amato, Ruggero Rotolo, Marco Carnemolla ecc. E con il Taranta Trio incide nel 2002 “Ondre”, produzione che trova un ottimo consenso della critica, rimanendo al primo posto in classifica , per piú di due mesi, su Radio Rai Uno. Varie le collaborazioni tra le quali quella con la cantante siciliana Rita Botto, con il contrabbassista Stefan Looker, e con il sassofonista Stevy Grossman.
Scrive musica per orchestra, alcune sue composizioni, infatti, sono eseguite ed incise dal orchestra da camera, composta da professori del Teatro Massimo Bellini di Catania e dalla Filarmonica della Moldavia. Nel 2002 compone anche musiche per danza moderna eseguite in vari teatri.
Ha inoltre collaborato con la cantante Carmen Consoli per la colonna sonora del film "L'uomo che ama" di Tognazzi e suonato con il violoncellista compositore Paolo Damiani.
E' docente di piano moderno presso l'Istituto Musicale Delta Rho di Catania.
Ha inciso nel 2008 per la Dodicilune Records il cd "Incipit", con il contrabbassista Nello Toscano ed il batterista Antonio Moncada

He was born in 1965 in Catania, began his studying of the classical piano at the age of seven but left it quite soon because he was actually attracted by the composition and the improvised music. He attended in Umbria some seminaries of the Berkeely School of Boston then frequented the School of Musical Specialization in Siena "CPM" and finally moved to Bologna. He lived there for about ten years and while staying there he started an interesting collaboration with the Quintet "Inno" which became a trio later and in 1989 recorded the album "Insonnie" published by Splasc(h) Records. After that Giuseppe Finocchiaro began to tour all over Europe, playing a series of interesting concerts such as the one performed in Prague on 1991, at the Carlovy Vary Jazz Festival. Although his appeal for Jazz music was growing stronger, he never denied the classical pianism: he used to search, indeed, for a contact between the two styles, developing a piano technique which can be defined European Jazz; this is an original genre clearly influenced by minimalism and ethnic music. Between 1990 and 1993 he went on with his art, performing with several artists both italians and internationals; in 1994 he created a project called "Taranta" in association with the trumpet player Roy Paci and some other leading artist such as Sergio Amato, Ruggero Rotolo and Marco Carnemolla. In 2002 the Taranta Trio recorded an album called "Ondre": this production brilliantly met with the favour of the critics and it also has been at the top of Rai Radiouno’s chart for more than two months. The Master has worked together with several musicians, like the Sicilian ethnic singer Rita Botto, the double-bass player Stefan Looker, and the saxophonist Stevy Grossman. He writes music for orchestra and as a matter of fact some of his compositions are performed and recorded from the chamber orchestra put together by some of the lecturers of Vincenzo Bellini Theatre of Catania and from the Moldavian Symphonic Orchestra as well. In 2002 he also made some compositions for modern dance which were performed in several theatres. However Giuseppe Finocchiaro prefers the basics line-up because he firmly believes they give him the chance to fully express his creativity; that’s the reason why he has set up the "Giuseppe Finocchiaro Trio" in association with the double-bass player Nello Toscano and the drummer Antonio Moncada. They will publish soon the recordings they are working at, and a Giuseppe Finocchiaro’s solo album will be recorded as well.
