In today's technologically tactile world, high quality music studios are easier to come by, and musicians are empowered more than ever before. Still, few entertainers are able to penetrate the throng. Enter emerging Indie artist, Kamuela Kahoano, the composing, performing, gravity defying dream catcher who's got a "ticket to play." Kamuela hails from the island of Oahu and is known for his ability to streamline into any genre convincingly so, with performances ranging from Traditional Hawaiian to Reggae/Ska to Rock to Hip Hop to R&B to pop hits to swing to easy listening to folk, etc. He is also known for his stage wit and spontaneous banter exchange...Kamuela is reputed to give all energy all the time at his live shows, and he also currently serves as frontman to Analog.
A Hawaii native, the 28 year old Kamuela is the third son of radio/TV personality, emcee and living legend, Kimo Kahoano (a.k.a. dad). He is also brother to Ikaika Kahoano, famed singer and Making the Band Veteran (OTown). In his own right, Kamuela created the Green Light Go/Kahoano Productions company - which recently won an East Coast Urban Music award in the female Slam Poetry category (Katana -Kaotica - 2009). Other Kahoano productions offspring includes songs like, "All About The Butt (feat. JD from BET)," "Grumpy (She's Grumpy It's My Fault)," "Strawberry Love," "Steppin High," "Cuddles," "Chemistry," and "I Got Issues," "Green Light Go 2," "It All Makes Sense to Me," to name only a few.
Those that have made it out to Kamuela's gigs also know about his secret passion for aggressive "rock style" Ukulele...a unique brand of Ukulele playing that will amaze even the most savy uke enthusiasts ---- these performances are usually given at his own private concerts...not at hotel gigs.
In college, Kamuela was hailed as the "Happy Music Maker" by his colleagues in the music department. One thing is certain about Kamuela Kahoano...he truely entertains.. Need proof? Many of his new tracks will be on itunes and ready for download by the end of the summer.
A dedicated music devotee (addict) since birth, Kamuela spent most of his childhood mastering the compositional techniques of other artists like Dave Matthews, Third Eye Blind U2, Coldplay, Ani DiFranco, Blackstar, the Beatles Johnny Cash, John Mayer, Bob Marley, Kaau Krater Boys, Boyz II Men, Journey and countless others. Kamuela's first instrument was the ukulele at 6 years old, although he would eventually learn several other instruments well enough to record and mix his first CD, Green Light Go (Green Light Go/Kahoano Productions) in 2006. A self taught composer until age 20, Kamuela entered the college of Music composition at the University of Hawaii at Manoa on scholarship and with no prior training. Less than 3 years later Kamuela evolved into a classical music theory buff. To the dismay of many non-believers, Kamuela also entered the University of Hawaii Chamber and Symphony Choirs, under the direction of Dr. Karen Kennedy. By the time he was 23, Kamuela could definitely carry a decent tune and he had already completed four large-scale symphonic works. Five years, 200 songs, over 550 gigs later, Kamuela has still only scratched the surface of his full musical potential.
Kamuela currently performs at various hotel establishments in Waikiki (Hale Koa, Outrigger, Hilton, Resort Quest, Sheraton, Royal Hawaiian, Beachwalk, etc.), and is an in-demand wedding singer/troubadour. He is currently in production with the next few CD's. So come out and support this dynamic entertainer...or just be.
Don't forget...everything downloadable will be on itunes. Just look up "Grumpy She's."
