Pinpointing the creative zenith of the Grateful Dead’s career would be a maddening challenge fit for Sisyphus. That said, one could do a lot worse picking the spring tour of 1977, a time many informed observers consider to be the single greatest sustained burst of creativity in the band’s long performing career. During the exhausting trek — 26 shows in 37 days — the Dead played with unparalleled energy, wit, passion and power — a band at the very top of its game. The tour ended on a euphoric note May 28 at the Hartford Civic Center in Connecticut, where the band previewed several tracks from its soon-to-be-released ninth studio album Terrapin Station, including “Estimated Prophet,” “Passenger,” “Samson And Delilah” and the title track. Now we can all experience the showfrom start to finish on the Grateful Dead's newest release, TO TERRIAPIN: HARTFORD, MAY 28, 1977. For more details, visit www.dead.net.
