Grave Forsaken Biography

Grave Forsaken is a five-piece Christian thrash metal band with influences from all kinds of classic metal styles. The band formed in 2004 with four relatively unknown musicians and a strong desire to succeed.

In 2005, Grave Forsaken recorded a self-titled demo EP which was released independently to a welcoming audience. The early death metal influences seen on the EP soon began to take on a sharper sound as the band played a number of local gigs and wrote new material.

In 2006, the album "Beside The River Of Blood" was released, having been signed to Rowe Productions even before it was completed. Tracks featured on the album such as "Buried Alive" and "Harder To Hate" received high praise from both fans and critics. The band made it clear that they're not only a thrash band, also venturing into death and doom metal territory with tracks like "Tribulation Cometh" and "The Celebrity Judge And The Sinners, Part I."

In 2007, Grave Forsaken appeared in Heaven's Metal magazine. The band also established a fan club known as the "Grave Forsaken Mosher Crew", now with a dedicated MySpace page.

Later, GF teamed up with a new producer and recorded their first single, entitled "Horror and Sadness". The band also established themselves as a touring group, having completed their second trip to Australia's east coast. The tour co-incided with the launch of the "Horror and Sadness" single and also welcomed in the newest addition to the band, Scourged Flesh drummer Dave Kilgallon.

Keen to keep the momentum going, the group released their second full length "Destined For Ascension" in early 2008. This album was met with much acclaim, and even featured the vocal talents of label boss Steve Rowe on 2 songs.

Signed by Soundmass and with Tim Steadman taking over lead vocals, the lineup recorded the 3rd full length album "This Day Forth" throughout 2008 and released early 2009. During the recording, Tim left the band. At this point Vaughan Gregory took over the lead vocal role again. Some of Tim's vocals were left on the final mix, making "This Day Forth" Tim's last appearance as an official member of the band. The release of this album has represented the artistic peak of the band so far.

In September 2009 the online special Mosher Crew live Album "Light The Hall" was released. The gig was recorded in July 2008, and featured the lineup of Vaughan, Elias, Matt and Dave.

With 2009 celebrating five years of the bands existence, with the view for many more to come, the catch phrase 'Five Years and Beyond' was developed signalling the bands commitment to each other and to the Christian metal scene - but first and foremost to God.

As the band heads on into 2009, the line-up has changed - with Vaughan (lead vocals), Elias (lead guitar), Simon (rhythm guitar), Matt (bass guitar) and Richard (drums) - but the music is still the same. The band has no intention of slowing down either, and is already plotting their next moves in the future. We hope you'll join us for the ride!

Rest assured, folks - Grave Forsaken is here to stay!

Sounds Like "Metal that sort of elevates over any sub-genre, creating something unique. It's not really thrash, nor death, but at the same time it's both"
- Metal Metropolis

"There is no doubt this is a single-minded, single-purposed band and that this is a deliberate tool no doubt designed to keep the listener’s attention throughout the complete package. Guess what…it works!"
- Arttie Parker, Christian Metal Realm

"The guitars are stupendous as they rift from mountainous peaks to heavenly dual opuses. The songs are thumpin' and grindin' from the start to the finish, so make sure you are not sitting down when you throw it in your player or you may just be catapulted down to your face!"
- Nokternal Hemizphear

"Grave Forsaken is a band that knows what they like, knows what they want to deliver, and deliver it well."

ALBUM REVIEWS

"Have you ever heard a thrash metal band sing about signs of the apocalypse, God being the only one that matters, Microsoft controlling the masses, or the need for an environmental cleansing? If not, you probably haven’t listened to Grave Forsaken’s This Day Forth, eight heavy songs that revolve around making the world a better place and how humans are destroying it with their greed and lustful desire for more. The lyrics to the music are what really make this record stand out. Deep, meaningful prose that forces the listener think about the world and their situation in it is captured here. Themes such as selling yourself on a daily basis, giving all of your energy to the job and having none left for a personal life, as well as re-examining your relationship with the Earth and the Lord are all poignant and effective in their mission to make one think and reconsider what is being done on a daily basis. “This Day Forth” is thrash metal done right."

Rob Rockitt, Hard Rock Hideout

"Destined for Ascension" by Grave Forsaken is a Christian metal album with a touch of doom and thrash. Expect nothing less than insanity with this album. All of the staples of classic metal are present on this album – chunky guitar riffs, crazy solos, angry vocals, and drums galore – and remind the listener of a Jesus-oriented Slayer or Megadeth. What sets this album apart is its ability to stay up in your face while expressing views of spiritual faith. The musicians are all top-notch, and the band is tight. If you are looking for a slick, overproduced metal album, this one's not for you. Rather, the band pays homage to their early metal influences with an analog garage band recording. Highlights include the opener, "Warriors of Light," with its papal-church-organ-led intro and thrashy arrangement. "Celebrity Judge and the Sinners Part II" features a growling guitar riff and standout lyrics. The title track, "Destined for Ascension," has yet another growling riff, cool breaks, and subtle variances."

William and the RadioIndy.com Reviewer Team

"Thrashers Grave Forsaken is back with their first fullength. Really liked their demo so it was with big anticipation I put the disc into the cdplayer. Unfortunately it wasn't as good as I had expected. The band still plays thrash but there are just way too many slow parts that make me lose interest. They really need to speed up to coming releases! Faster for the Master, you know. The faster tracks are also their best. Really like their Biblical lyrics but musically they need to speed up. Grave Forsaken truly have lots of potential which they really showed on their demo and if they add more speed, harmonies and variation next album can be really interesting."
