"Born in South Africa and raised in Philadelphia, Gregory Alan Isakov makes quietly lush, deeply vibrant music more rooted in the starry night sky—like the one on the cover of his latest LP—than any terrestrial locale." -Paste Magazine

"Gregory Alan Isakov...whose music is all tones of sepia and creeping warmth. He’s recommended for folks who appreciate warmly intelligent, rich songwriting like Jeffrey Foucault or Josh Ritter. Now living in Colorado, we are proud to call him an adopted native son. I love the sly sincerity in his voice, like he knows a secret that’s making him smile." -I Am Fuel/Friends

"This Empty Northern Hemisphere—has quickly become one of my favorite singer-songwriter albums of the year. With lush, warm arrangements that create images of star-strewn skies and wave-rocked boats adrift at sea, the album spotlights Isakov's incredible artistic restraint and intuition." -About.com

"Gregory Alan Isakov's new record, This Empty Northern Hemisphere, is the talk of the town this week, and for damn good reason. We've had it for a while now, and let's just say, three records in, he's delivered his finest work to date. And that's saying a lot, because his other releases were exemplary. Brandi Carlile guests on this one." -Westword

"Colorado loves traditionalists, and it's Gregory Alan Isakov's unquestionable purity that's elevated him above the infinite army of singer-songwriters. Rather than another would-be Jeff Buckley or Will Oldham, Isakov uses 'That Sea, The Gambler' to lay bare an elegant simplicity that's caked in dust and an utter lack of pretension. Unadulterated, loosely woven folk music will always strike a twang in Denver's soul, and 'That Sea' is one of the best this area's seen in ages." -The A.V. Club

"Gregory Alan Isakov proudly calls himself a folk artist, and while that's broadly accurate, it's also a tad limiting. Because while some music fans might not consider themselves fans of "folk," they still bow at the alters of Jeff Tweedy, Andrew Bird and Jolie Holland.
And now you can add Isakov to that list."- Denver Post

"...his music coasts on the same subtle strength and gravity that Bruce Springsteen built 'Nebraska' on. Hints of everyone from Steve Earle to Gillian Welch also creep into Isakov's twangy, shaded folk, but it's his absolute ease-the man sounds like he's swimming through his own songs-that makes his 'That Sea, The Gambler' such a stunning disc." -Westword
i didn't know you could get BETTER! last night was of course, another amazing evening filled with spiritual experiences...the calm and connectdeness your music creates is so appreciated..thanks for being so real and powerful. so glad to know you gregory!
I can't even say how much you've inspired me over the past years as a Singer/Songwriter. My mother brought your CD home from a concert you played with Brandi Carlile about a year ago, and I fell in love with your music then. It caused me to develop a whole new appreciation for lyrics in music, as well as texture and the ability to avoid introducing complexity for complexity's sake into my own pieces.
I'm not sure if you remember, but this year my mother went on the Cayamo cruise and saw you. She picked up a hard copy of "That Sea, The Gambler" as well as a Cayamo T-Shirt and you signed both. It's honestly one of the greatest gifts I've ever received.
Listening to your music inspired me to compose the song that I played at my audition to Berklee School of Music the way that I did, so I may even be able to thank you for being accepted to the school I've always wanted to go to.
As an artist, I can only hope to one day create anything even in the same realm as what you have created. Thank you for being such an amazing musician.
nice surprise to open up yellow scene and see a familiar face. hope the traveling's treating you well & filled with an abundance of noticing moments. be well. :)
Holy God! The record sounds amazing on vinyl! Fantastic seeing you again and I'll send you the recordings as soon as I have some proper mixing on them! Stay Awesome Matt Allen
