Welcome to my page! Yes, this is the official page of Gregory Porée and I would first of all like to say: I love the arts – whether performing, fine, literature, photography, poetry and of course musical.
I have been fortunate enough to build my career here in Los Angeles around music: My instrument is the guitar and currently, my “day job” is being the lead guitarist on the BBC hit show ‘Dancing with the Stars’. Apart from always having been musically active in film and television I have worked as a guitarist, musical director, arranger and producer with the most talented musicians, ranging from Ray Charles and Herbie Hancock to Sting and Phoebe Snow. You can hear me on landmark albums from Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, Stanely Turrentine, Ahmad Jamal, Benny Golson and James Blunt. But that’s nothing I want to explore here in detail – just Google me if you’re curious.
For me personally, some of the most wonderful moments in the world are performing, enjoying my family, playing my classical guitar and composing – which is my artistic passion and dedication. Having grown up in a multi-cultural environment, I’ve always been deeply influenced by the exposure to diverse styles of music, ranging from Bach to Beatles, and from Villa-Lobos to Motown. One of the best compliments someone gave me recently after a concert was that I sounded like Piazolla…one of my heroes and to me a composer of great depth.
My band consists of a fluctuating group of instrumentalists playing violin, bass, percussion, electric piano and accordion. Recent concerts, like at the Los Angeles County Museum or Jazz At The A-Frame have brought my compositions to a new level of recording my third CD that was released in October 2008. Some of these tunes have grown over years, have changed and evolved. Many of them I wrote on my travels, on tour, like the pieces “December” and “In Time for Spring”, which were born on a gig in Paris. Other compositions, like "Fresh Air", "Traveler", "City Lights", "Mind Set" and “Only Time Will Tell” have already been recorded by other contemporary jazz artists and my repertoire will soon be available in an international catalogue for film and TV music.
I do enjoy being part of an interactive virtual community, which has been quite an adventure and change, since I otherwise do prefer meeting people face to face. But it is nice to find so many wonderful artists, music lovers and both interesting and interested people out there! So do check out my music, stay connected and posted! And please, respect my page - don’t send a request if you are solely promoting your band or wanting to merely boost your quantity of friends. Be sincere. Thank you.
P.S. I am looking for a trustworthy manager and a booking agent.
I put Greg's CD on the other day and threw my guitar out. Why bother? Might as well use it as a coffee table cause I can't play the thing like that-Jorge
Thank you Mr. Poree, for adding me to your space. I am a great fan of great music and artists, of all mediums, and looking forward to one of your upcoming gigs soon...Respectfully......Al Mora
