Started in 1997, God The Band (or GTB) was a unique band in the independent rock music scene of NYC. Wearing ruffled tuxedo shirts with black bowties, their shows were often theatrical spectacles that was far from a passive musical experience. In the fall of 2002, after going on a 3 month tour to suppor the release of their album "RAWK!" the group quietly disbanded as each member took time to pursue their own projects, musically and otherwise.
You can purchase both ‘GOD’S GREATEST HITS VOL. 2’ and RAWK! for only the cost of shipping the CD's to you. We are passionate about getting our music out there for people to hear, so if you would like to experience the fun madcap rock sound of GOD, simply paypal your payment of $5 to matt_glasson@yahoo.com and include the shipping address where you would like the CD’s to be sent.
GOD THE BAND IN "GENERAL QUEER"
GTB's swan song, the music video for their song "General Queer" plays out almost like a documentary on the break-up of the group as they went on their final tour in 2002. Shot entirely in the group's van as they travelled between shows, "Queer" is a standing testament's to the band's madcap energy and complex musical style.
God? Are you listening? Haha oh cheers for the CD's over christmas btw, and the documentary is interesting, nice to see the face of God after hearing the voices for so long. Strange to see that, as I'm here to tell you I'm coming over to New York to film a little & try to prove the theory that you can play an open mic every day of the week out there.. we did it in London and gonna put together a documentary comparison of the two musical climates.. or get drunk and dance like fools more likely. Any chance of one (or more) of you joining me at an open mic & playin' my favourite God song 7:13am?? There'll be a few of us over who'd love to see it..
For those of you who do not know, Landis is very ill and in the hospital. His kidneys are suffering from renal failure and they've started dialysis to get them working again. His spirits are very high, but much prayer and good thoughts are needed.
We will soon begin taking donations for Landis via the special MySpace page we set up for him. The URL is listed below. Please add him and put him in your top friends. We're trying to get as much exposure as possible. Landis is an amazing person who needs help from his friends right now. Not only does he have no income right now due to being in the hospital, but the medical bills to come will most likely be pretty ugly. We will update the page soon with paypal information so you can help Landis pick his life back up where he left it when he's all better.
Feel free to leave lots of comments and PLEASE REPOST THIS BULLETIN. This is important. A friend needs us.
To the many, many of you who have sent your well wishes and prayers, we thank you so much!! We love you all.
HAPPY HOLIDAYS GUYS- REMBERING THOSE FESTIVE HOLIDAY SHOWS LIKE UUMM "A SPOOK-TAC-ULATE THE HALLOWEENIE." HOPING FOR A REUNION. ONE DAY, SOME DAY. WILL BRING LOLLY POPS.
Are you the guys that did the song that goes '..I must have been dreaming, the sun has been shining all night'? I love that song, used to play it a lot. Never too sure about the bird exploding in mid-flight but gave the benefit of the doubt on that one x
You know, "The Lifter" came on my MP3 player the other day and I couldn't help but snicker to myself thinking of the video. See? "The Lifter "still Lifts!
to bad the masses want 5 year old ear candy. GTB was fuckin' awsome. Way to out there for them to ever have been famous, which actually makes them famous. Sort of a frank zappa thing.
THANKS FOR THE ADD, MY FRIEND IS THE DRUMMER FOR DINGLEBERRY, I SAW YOU GUYS IN ANNAPOLIS WITH THEM, I WISH I WOULD HAVE GOTTEN A CD. IS THERE ANY WAY TO GET SOME THE BANDS CD'S?
I've witnessed a lot of live performances in my 25 years, but God the Band's hilarious live entertainment still stands head and shoulders above them all as the absolute best I've seen.
Wow- I can't believe how quickly time flies. Once Jen and I were giggly teens who drove around the East coast screaming your praises. Now we're both young ladies... who would have thought we turned out OK?
I still play your CDs- and I remember passing flyers out with you in that mall in Poughkipse, and Jen and I learned the Lifter Dance and us and Talya would dance it at your shows, and didn't I once put the wrong bag of newsletters in the mail only to have them all returned to your PO Box? Wow, so many memories....
I'll put on my RAWK CD tonight and reminisce!
