Yowsah! the Ukulele noir in Shirley was fantastic....nice turnout and GREAT sound. Everyone sounded killer...but, ohmygod, I've never heard Uke Box perform live and Shelley's voice is SO FUCKING RICH it's like a lovely creme sauce! damn.
...They were so well rehearsed and professional you couldn't help but be impressed. Shelley's voice was like liquid honey. IF you have a chance to see them live...go for it.

Craig's Ukulele Noir CD release event was outstanding...Uke Box ROCKS, Shelley & Marko are a dream team--traveling all the way from Holland, no less.

After the break up of the Zaagmolen Band in the spring of 2005* we, Marko van der Horst & Shelley Rickey, had a musical breakdown… (*our fiddle player impregnated a Fin…he has since immigrated to Helsinki. Musicians are fertile….it happens)
…Until, on a whim we bought two ukuleles at Japies Accordeon Palace. Well, within a month we were on stage as 'The Uke Box'. Of coarse, it was quite, shall we say, experimental, in the beginning. But since this time we have developed quite an eccentric little act comprised of nostalgic tunes and off-beat theatrics. Besides Ukuleles we also use and abuse a Banjolele, a Child Prodigy Midget Accordion, a Washtub Bass and a Toy Piano. Our mission is to create the best damn show ever that fits into just one traveling trunk!
Hi there Shelley, Thanks for the comments. Nice stuff you've got here too! I've just been getting into the uke lately -- doing a little solo act with a uke and a kazoo doing mostly old songs and some of my own. I'll put up a myspace for it soon and make friends with you again... Take care, Jonathan
Hey, Thanks for the kind words. I'm approaching the one year anniversary with my uke. I didn't even think about trying a Rick James cover. If you figure it out you'll have to send me the chords. Keep ukin' in the free world!
Judging from what i heard on your page, "The Uke Box" must have "the best damn show ever" ahahahahah!!!!! By the way, your uke playin' is way better than all the uke bands, you find on the web... Really nice!!!! Thanx
Hello and thanks so much for friending. Your music is fantastic and I only hope I can see you live someday. Oh, and I can completely relate about your former fiddle player. I've often said the trouble with making music is you have to rely on musicians. (Part of the reason it took me 6 years to finally get a 35 minute albume together!) Anyways, it sounds like you're doing just fine without him. Much love and balloon animals, - Ukulele Loki
thanks for your comment! we've studied exactly what bears sound like intensely for many decades to reach the point where we're able to recreate their sounds in our music!
When i wanted to put on my first uke project i wanted to call it Uke Box, but finally i choosed Old Blind Mole. So i alreday love yor name and i also love your music, sounds so cool and honest, like in the good old times...It's a pleasure drinking a coffee listening to your songs, thanks a lot.
