"...grind-rock ripper so good it puts me in mind of a doomful Unsane or a New Orleans version of Britain's Charger. Trashy, real recording with great live as fuck drumming (to keep it gummy - call it the Weedeater blues effect), supporting a mid-tempo power surge as physical as a six-inch blade covered with dried raccoon guts jammed between your forth and fifth ribs. Gritty, harsh rock probably birthed from formative years full of hardcore. Thus giving the members an approach to apply to other tempos and structures whilst keeping the dirt-under-the-fingernails reality this kinda thing needs to keep it from becoming bunk. This is not bunk. It's a keeper." - LOLLIPOP MAGAZINE
..they bend out some heavy chords and are sure to get the head bobbing in the process. They're sure to remain a cult band if Charlie's vocal attack remains so vicious, but that just makes them all the more interesting" - METAL MANIACS
"Dark and dirty grind that takes a nod from bands like Cavity. This Virginia band cranks out some slow bass heavy rage that definitely caught my attention." - MAXIMUM ROCK N ROLL
"..swampy, sludgy, distinctly Southern metallic vomit sound we dig so much around here. Catchy and pretty upbeat and rockin' but heavy as f**k and misanthropic to the core, infected with diseased hardcore aggression - like Buzzov*en's bratty little brother bludgeoning you with a repetitive/pulverizing drugged out riff and feedback assault." - CRUCIAL BLAST
"First off, my biggest thanks goes out to John from This Dark Reign/Devil Doll Records for releasing this necessary CD. MUGWART were one of the finest US bands, who infected this world with a brutal heavy combination of sludgy patterns, southern blues licks and hardcore-tinged aggression. Sad, that this group split-up, but as the title says here one can get all of their hard-to-find songs from 1999-2002. The album contains thirteen uncompromising anthems about the fucked-up sides of a human exsistence. Although the line-up changed, the songs never lack of quality or essence. The guitars are coming up with one dirty pulverizing riff after the next without adding any solos, while singer Charlie Lee Beasley vomits his lyrics out.
Of course, there are a few similarities to EyeHateGod, especially the interwoven feedback parts, but MUGWART were straighter, simpler, groovier and had created their own thick devastating sound within their short lifespan. It's hard to pick out cuts, but some of my personal highlights are the neckbreaking "Fallen" or the excellent three tracks from the legendary "South Of Hell" compilation. Or the instrumentals "M-Camp" (southern groove swing) and "Nothing" ...or "Amen", featuring the mighty Ben Hogg (also responsible for growls at "40/90"), vocalist from Beaten Back To Pure. Well, I could list more tracks here but I think everything is said about "Discography". So, raise up the beer bottles and show this world the middle finger while rockin' out with MUGWART" - COSMIC LAVA
"For fans of the so-called sludge scene, Mugwart were a breath of fresh air - a band that stayed true to the roots of the genre while bringing in interesting new influences. The band is set apart by a keen notion of songcraft and melody (whether they knew it or not)..... having imploded in a fog of cheap brew, barbs, and lethargy."
"I first heard Mugwart on the excellent Berserker Records comp South of Hell, where the band's two tracks stood out as highlights, no small feat considering the other bands involved - Rwake, Beaten Back to Pure, and others. Unfortunately, like many good things, by the time I discovered Mugwart, they were already gone, having imploded in a fog of cheep brew, barbs, and lethargy. Never having released a full-length in their short career, This Dark Reign has thankfully collected their singles and compilation tracks on the excellent Discography.
Ultimately, Discography leaves you with a nagging sense of what might have been. For fans of the so-called sludge scene, Mugwart were a breath of fresh air - a band that stayed true to the roots of the genre while bringing in interesting new influences. While Mugwart might remind of you of a million bands in the genre (Iron Monkey, Cavity, Eyehategod), they don't really sound like any of them. The band is set apart by a keen notion of songcraft and melody (whether they knew it or not), that makes all the tracks on Discography totally top-notch. Opening juggernauts "The Prostitute" and "Before You" are prime examples of this - squalls of feedback detonating into up-tempo riffage and the second-to-none vocals of Charlie Beasley, making a few unexpected turns before disappearing into the same wall of noise. Beasley is a great singer (although I use the term loosely), and it's good to know that he's currently working on a side-project called Lunch with members of Beaten Back to Pure. Ben Hogg of BBTP also appears on two tracks on Discography, including "40/90" (from Beserker's Crushers, Killers, Destroyers comp), possibly the best fucking thing I've heard all year.
With nary a weak track in sight, Mugwart's Discography is a must have and also makes an excellent gift for the bed-ridden misanthrope in your life." - HELLRIDE MUSIC
"Mugwart is definitely sludge, but they have a bluesy, catchy rockin’ feel that makes their music less torturous and more fun than most of the more extreme bands in the genre. But make no mistake about it, this shit is HEAVY." - STONERROCK.COM
"Drop tuned and heavy with a strong rockin' power. Reminds me a lot of Kilara. And that is good cause Kilara were awesome and unique and Mugwart draw on the heavy rockin' power with some of the influence of eyehategod and Buzzov*en but they maintain more of a punk edge and less of the rock club stoner vibe. I really dig this. Their sound has power and punch with heavy distortion. I'm glad to know this band - cause they rock." - SLUG & LETTUCE ZINE
Major Depressive Disorder causes the following cognitive symptoms:
Abnormal self-reproach or inappropriate guilt:
This disorder usually causes a marked lowering of self-esteem and self-confidence with increased thoughts of pessimism, hopelessness, and helplessness. In the extreme, the person may feel excessively and unreasonably guilty.
The "negative thinking" caused by depression can become extremely dangerous as it can eventually lead to extremely self-defeating or suicidal behavior.
Abnormal poor concentration or indecisiveness:
Poor concentration is often an early symptom of this disorder. The depressed person quickly becomes mentally fatigued when asked to read, study, or solve complicated problems.
Marked forgetfulness often accompanies this disorder. As it worsens, this memory loss can be easily mistaken for early senility (dementia).
Abnormal morbid thoughts of death (not just fear of dying) or suicide:
The symptom most highly correlated with suicidal behavior in depression is hopelessness
80 to 90% of individuals with Major Depressive Disorder also have anxiety symptoms (e.g., anxiety, obsessive preoccupations, panic attacks, phobias, and excessive health concerns).
About one third of individuals with Major Depressive Disorder also have a full-blown anxiety disorder (usually either Panic Disorder, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, or Social Phobia).
Anxiety in a person with major depression leads to a poorer response to treatment, poorer social and work function, greater likelihood of chronicity and an increased risk of suicidal behavior.
The main symptom of a Panic Anxiety Disorder is the panic attack itself. Panic Anxiety Disorder is a medical disorder characterized by severe and sudden episodes.
Panic attacks reach maximum intensity within a minute or two once they begin. They diminish slowly over the next 30 minutes or the next several hours. It is common for the first attack to cause a person to go to an emergency medical facility. Subsequent attacks occur several times a month and are often as severe as the initial attack.
It is important to note that although a few experts say it is more common in persons who experienced a separation experience as a child, many of experts feel that Panic Anxiety Disorder afflicts emotionally healthy people. Persons having Panic attacks are no more likely than the average American to have suffered from emotional problems at the time the disorder begins.
Symptoms of a Panic Attack
