Born & raised in Pasadena, California, USA, I now live in London, UK. Played fiddle as a kid(wish I still did!), but soon switched to the guitar when I got the call. No artist likes to be boxed and labelled, but I reckon that "roots, americana and blues" pretty much covers what I do. I am a songwriter and singer, play acoustic and electric guitars, and gig extensively in the UK and Europe both with my four piece band, and as a duo with a bass or keyboard sideman. Band gigs usually include both an acoustic and an electric set -- we like to mix it up a little -- the duo and solo work is strictly acoustic. I like songs that are about something. The music I do has been summed up by Paul Jones (BBC Radio 2) as -- "beautiful, subtle . . . and great slide guitar." Albums are released on my small indie Turtledove label. Right now I’m excited about the newest one: "Living on Credit", distributed by Proper Music and available in CD and as a download from all the usual places. --
Other people say: --
"As much understated soul as anyone has a right to expect" -- Americana-UK --
"Tortora could be Alvin Youngblood Hart & Rainer’s cousin" -- Rootstown Magazine --
"There is simply not a weak track here. Every song stands out and this collection is a tribute to all involved." -- Blues Matters!
I say: -- Music is the spice of life, so enjoy it!
