Bio
Half The Band I Used To Be were a band based in the city of Cork, Ireland from December 2006 till November 2007. Formed when two friends, Philip Brett and Debbie Hickey agreed to open for a Leanne Harte gig in December, they realised they had no band, no songs, and 2 weeks to get themselves sorted. On vocals, they swiftly added the wonderful Aoife Conway-to call her merely a singer would be an injustice to her ability, and borrowed a rhythm section from a local band. .... Over the coming months, they added John Gleeson on guitar and vocals, and Steve Galvin on drums. The position of bass player changed a number of times, with the 2 key contributors being first Colin Murphy and then Paul Galvin. .. .. Through numerous line up changes-notoriously never having the same line up for any gig-they played gigs with wonderful musicians such as Leanne Harte, Bill Coleman and Fred, and performed at both the Christmas and Birthday Party of the longest running club night in Ireland, the inimitable Freakscene. .... The band split in November 2007, having never entered a studio to record the many songs they had written and performed over the course of the 11 months together. Some live recordings have slowly filtered back to the band, which are now available to listen on the myspace player. .... Aoife can now be heard performing with the great Cork band My Evil Ex, while Phil has gone on to make a new band in London called Izzy Plastic & The Manicans. .... .. -
