    Hamferð was formed with one goal. To bring slow, crushing and atmospheric doom metal from the Faroe Islands to the world. Up in the North Atlantic Ocean, these small islands in the dark of winter are home to a bleak and depressive atmosphere that can only be properly communicated through the funeral march of doom metal. The band was formed in 2008 by guitarist John Egholm. The first performance was at the Global Battle Of The Bands later that year, and they advanced to the national final. After the competition there was little activity other than the addition of new members. Guitarist Theodor Kapnas and and keyboard player Esmar Joensen joined John Egholm, vocalist Jón Hansen, bassist Tinna Tótudóttir and drummer Remi Johannesen and the band continued. During the summer of 2009 Hamferð wrote and arranged what would become their first demo, which was recorded in Sweden during the fall of 2009. In early 2010 Hamferð entered and won the music competition Sement, gaining the title of "Best new Faroese band 2010". Jón Hansen, Theodor Kapnas and Tinna Tótudóttir were absent for these performances, so bass and guitar duties were handled by good friends Jenus í Trøðini and Harald í Kálvalíð, respectively, and vocals were assumed by John Egholm. This lineup performed several concerts around the Faroe Islands from late winter to the summer of 2010. A few weeks after Sement had finished, the demo track of the song "Opið Hav" was number one on the Faroese radio charts for three consecutive weeks. The summer of 2010 would be the highlight of the band's career so far. Theodor Kapnas, Tinna Tótudóttir and Jón Hansen returned from abroad, and Hamferð performed large shows at G! Festival, Summarfestivalurin and several other gigs. The band got rave reviews for their performances, including a 4 star review from Kerrang! for the show at G! Festival. In addition, Hamferð was officially chosen to be one of the three best bands at G! 2010 by Jón Tyril, the arranger of G! Festival. In early July 2010 Hamferð began recording their debut release, entitled "Vilst er síðsta fet". The production duties were handled by guitarist Theodor Kapnas, and mastering was done by the legendary Peter In de Betou. Hamferð are hitting the road in early January to promote the new release, and 2011 promises to be the most exciting year of the band's short history so far.
