So, you are probably wondering, "Who is Hans Groiner, and what is all the fuss about?" You also may be asking yourself, "Who is Monk?" My small and interesting story will tell to all your questions.
I am originally from the Austrian village of Braunau, (also the birthplace of Hitler, but please don't hold that against me!). I started playing accordion, then piano, from a very young age. My other hobby was listening to the radio. One day, around 1978, I heard a very interesting piece of music that turned out to be a jazz pianist named Thelonious Monk. It pickled my interest because it was very different from anything I had ever heard. Although his music fascinated me, I had very mixed feelings. On the one hand, Mr. Monk had obvious talents, but on the other hand, his piano playing was very messy, and his songs had many funny notes and rhythms. Over the many years that I have been studying his music, I have grown to the conclusion that his songs would be much better, and much more popular, if many of the dissonances, or "wrong notes," were removed. With my new CD, "Hans Groiner Plays Monk," I have done just that.
I think music fans from all over will agree that this new interpretation brings Monk's music to a much prettier, much more relaxing place. So, please enjoy these brief samples from my CD, which I am planning to release worldwide, very, very soon!

“…an album fizzing with fresh ideas and delights, an exhilarating musical journey .. with brilliantly original writing and inspired playing…” -- Helen Mayhew
"At last a follow up to Janette Mason's sparkling debut as leader. Alien Left Hand ....was well worth the wait…” Production **** Performance**** -- BBC Music Magazine
"Every track from the rhythmic ‘NY Cab Ride’ and restless ‘4 Wheel Drive’ to the brooding ‘Mae’s Song’ has a terrific hook but it’s the way Mason switches tempo and moods that makes ALH great fun." -- Diva Magazine

Yo, Hans: FUCK YOU for not telling me you played fucking Small's the other day... WITH Larry Goldings on the SAME BILL! (God do I love this gag.) I heard it was brilliant! What do I have to do to be remebered as your biggest fan, yah?
Herr Groiner, I watched your videos from your first appearance in NYC Jazz Club! The laughing audience... What's so funny?! It is a great performance, sensitive and interactive. Hope you'll do it again!
Let me begin by saying that you are doing a blessed work. You musical interpretations are inspiring, especially your ingenious use of the Lydian mode. How can one make it sound more Lydian then it is! Amazing! And I understand your difficulties with the accordion so well! I was attacked by a wild accordion in the forest when I was a kid and now every time I hear the haunted sounds, chills run down my spine.
There are imitators out there. One guy even made himself look like you. One Goldings guy. He even booked a spot after you at Smalls just to get some attention! Beware - he might have an accordion or worse an odd meter!!!
