HARVEST RAIN was born from the ashes of Horror Punk and Deathrock. Jason and Jamey Thompkins had been playing a darker form of punk music in the style of THE MISFITS, CHRISTIAN DEATH, T.S.O.L., FLIPPER and SAMHAIN in the Myrtle Beach area at the ages of 15 and 16 until they were in their early twenties. Some of the bands they formed were FIELDS OF FICTION, FLOWN, THE HUMANOIDS, SHADOWFUL and COLD READING.
Jason had always maintained a belief in Ghosts and the paranormal. He was also driven by the Cycles of Nature (the approaching Autumn - the impending Spring), Thunderstorms, Autumnal phenomena and landscapes, the gathering of the harvest and harvest celebrations in rural communities, old horror movies and so forth. But at some point they got more serious about their Culture, Heritage, Ancestry and Folklore. This is when Jason began studying and practicing and immersing himself in ARIOSOPHY. These topics can be heard through-out the albums of HARVEST RAIN. But it was coming across the works of Miguel Serrano that sparked the most influential time for HARVEST RAIN and the most IMPORTANT thing to happen to Jason personally. This culminated in the album BLOOD HYMNS. With the study of what is known as "Volkisch" tradition/culture and still true to their old Horror films, graveyard punk roots and Autumnal auric phenomena HARVEST RAIN have recorded:
A FROST COMES WITH THE WIND (2002)- 5 song Debut CD featuring Sol Invictus violinist MATT HOWDEN. Music recorded 1997, 1998, and 2001.
EVENING AND DEVOTION E.P. (2004)- 4 song 7'' vinyl with short story included ("Skeletal Limbs Reaching Out"). Music recorded in 1997, 1998 and 2003.
NIGHT CHORUS (2004)- Full-length album with TOR LUNDVALL as artist and musician. The term "Ghost Wave" is used to describe the album. Music recorded from 1996 to 2004.
NIGHT'S GLOW (2005)- Sister album to NIGHT CHORUS. More ghostly melodic hazy foggy music. Some artwok by TOR LUNDVALL. Music recorded from 1999 to 2004.
SONGS FROM EVENING (2004)- The Re-release of the 1997 classic album when HARVEST RAIN were not yet known. Originally titled "Evening and Devotion", but we had already used that name for the 7''. The old family and friends of HARVEST RAIN consider this to be THE "Ultimate Harvest Rain album". Music originally recorded in 1997 and released in 1998 as "Evening and Devotion" by HAUNTED SHOWERS MUSIC.
BLOOD HYMNS (2005)- Recorded during the 12 Nights of YULE. Features an Invocation read by Miguel Serrano. Juan A. of DER ARBEITER helped musically. A very "Arctic" album. "Cold". From acoustic guitars to electric delayed guitars. Soundtrack to a visit to THULE/HYPERBOREA. Recording began on the Winter Solstice of 2002 and lasted 12 Nights. Some songs written and recorded on the spot and others had been written through-out the years but never recorded.
