Headhunter D.C.’s existence is practically linked to the Death Metal history, as the band is part of the arising, propagation and keeping of the style worldwide. This Brazilian Death Metal Cult was formed in the fall of 1987 by guitar player Paulo Lisboa, in Salvador, Bahia, Brazilian Northeast, after the dissolution of his first band, Túmulo, and during its twenty years of uninterrupted activities in the Underground several members already crossed the band’s path, all contributing solidly so that Headhunter D.C. has become in what it is today: a wise knower of the secret of the perfect forge, extracting from the bowels of death the most perfect Death Metal.
Hell is Here, demo tape 1989, Born...Suffer...Die, the debut LP, from 1991 (re-issued on CD in 2002), Punishment At Dawn, LP, 93, Promo Tape ‘96, …And The Sky Turns To Black…(the dark age has come), CD, 2000 (later re-issued in 2001 and 2005), Brazilian Deathkult Live Violence..., live tape, from 2002 and the recently released split 10" EP ...In Deathmetallic Brotherhood released in May 2007, besides the usual rough rehearsal recordings spread in the scene in the beginning of the career and later several appearances on national and international compilations, were the first offerings of the “Death Cult” heading for the deserved conquest of a cult band’s status into the current true Underground Death Metal universe. And another assault of unholy brutality was to come in the new millennium of darkness...
After seven years without releasing a new full length album in the scene, the band returns, in June of 2007, with this masterpiece entitled God’s Spreading Cancer... (simultaneously released in South America and Europe through Dying Music and Obscure Domain Productions – the CD version – and Evil Spell Records – the gatefold LP version – respectively), their fourth opus, commemorating twenty years of an unquestionable existence... and we could not wait less from Headhunter Death Cult, after all the band brings on this album the true essence of Death Metal Music in a moment of singular inspiration.
God..s Spreading Cancer... was recorded, mixed and mastered in a space of thirty days, reaching an excellent recording level, with all the instruments perfectly aligned and united in a catastrophic sonorous destruction, with own identity and intelligence, being the graphic art a differentiated perspective of blasphemy, hurting the imagination of the most imprudent ones...
God..s Spreading Cancer... is not just a sound ritual, but the perfect conversion of feelings in the purest, perfect and exact Death Metal! On this album Headhunter D.C. presents us a sober, classic, sophisticated and at the same time rustic, primitive and actual sonority, keeping in its sound structure only the necessary among the rhythmic variations. Without fanaticisms for boring and “modernoid” heaviness or exaggerating speeds, but turning Death Metal into a vortex of cataclysmal riffs, Headhunter D.C. boils the blood and leads voracious feelings inside our veins. Perhaps the secret of the huge silence among the albums is to solidify the feeling, as on each album Headhunter D.C. keeps stronger, more intense, more faithful, and their sonority reaches a level of total perfection! And when we thought that the band has reached the limit of inspiration and creativity, we are surprised with another classic album!
God..s Spreading Cancer... is the sophistication of a refined technique through the forging of the classic influences with the quality of the current sonority. The intelligence of using the reason to melt primitive and black feelings in a superb sound structure, maintaining the riffs’ succession in a constant coalition of perfect sonorities, lead us to enter into an universe of horrors and sonic abominations perpetuated by amazingly memorable riffs, behaving us towards a metallic infinity, melting metallic/musical structures through an extremely noxious sound violence that happens naturally: the intelligently savage speed united to the grotesque cadency, highly inviting to total headbanging, and the raw and overpowering heaviness being expanded riff after riff, forging Metal, blood and death in an only musical and ideological essence: morbid, dark, unholy.
Lyrically wise, God's Spreading Cancer... presents us with texts through which we notice a Headhunter D.C. still more seriously concerned with the ideological side, while every lyrics is intelligently followed by introductory texts on its booklet. Themes that vary from genuine assaults against everything that is so-hypocritically-called “holy” – reflecting, so, a serious and intelligent atheistic and antichristian consciousness on the part of the band (some references to F. W. Nietzsche are found along the album) – (“God is Dead”, “Stillborn Messiah”, “Abortion of Souls” and the title-track) to the philosophy of chaos (“Celebrate the Chaos”), the art of rebellion (“Inner Demons Rise!”), the cult of death and the communion with the dark side of life (“Black Miracle”), besides their own saga on behalf of the old Death Metal roots, musical and ideologically wise (“Long Live the Death Cult”).
During the last twenty years Metal went by a lot of oscillations and changes, but Headhunter D.C. is not trying to (re)living something that is in a remote past, because the band always kept Metal burning strongly in the veins, in the strings, in the drum sticks and in the microphone, without ever let to corrupt themselves by the scene’s and musical market’s dictatorships as a lot of bands from their era have done. It’s old school Brutal Unholy Death Metal Mayhem made by who really did and keeps being part of the old school of the style; by who really have a knowledge on the matter!
God.s Spreading Cancer... is an album that, along its 11 tracks and 53 minutes of playing time, shows when the disciple overcomes the master, being the synthesis of Death Metal history in a moment of unique sound perfection! And on those twenty years of existence Headhunter D.C. becomes not just a testimony of Metal history, but a band that at each album adds a new chapter to this black history, giving us the certainty that Metal is far beyond than just a kind of music: it is something that is inside of our beings, being a true extension of what we are, were and will be.
Such albums as Seven Churches, Hell Awaits, Altars of Madness, Cross the Styx, Dawn of Possession, Morbid Visions and other great moments of Death Metal history are shown effective even after fifteen, twenty years of having been released, but we have in God..s Spreading Cancer... an unbeatable classic for future generations of worshippers of Total Death.
Currently the band gives continuity to the promotional tour of the new album, the Spreading The Death Cult... Tour 2007/2008, which has already reached countries as Chile, Peru, Bolivia and several cities around Brazil, spreading more and more the Cult through the darkest Underground paths, always through the most intense live Death Metal celebrations, in an explosion of adrenalin and total deathmetallic brutality, the way it must be.
