Head Of Skulls!: Flakes Should! Head Of Skulls! is a heavy Rock band hailing from Chicago. They've been around in various degrees of motivation for about two years and have one great slab of vinyl to show for it. You may have heard the limited edition, "The Liquid Ball" EP and wondered when there would be more. Well here it is, a full lengther called "You Became Your Mind." You are crazy if you sleep on this one. True, it'd be easy to give a half-assed wave of the hand and a "meh" to another yet another new band. But the jokers in H.O. Skulls! are not newbies to the scene. Dig up any Chicago show flyer circa oh,'96-NOW and chances are one of the Skullers! was at least there if not playing it. Spawning from Pinebender, Taking Pictures, Hurl, Milemarker and Atombombpocketknife- Head of Skulls! takes no time in convincing you that evolution can be crushing. HOS! has absorbed all what is good about rock and jammed it into 12 quick hitting songs that leave you wanting more. "You Became Your Mind' is Head Of Skulls! getting a little riled up. Hansen, Leger and The Witch are three of the nicest folk around but this music isn't. "Did you come here to fuck with me?" is asked on this album and that seems to be the general tone. Comparisons to Hot Snakes are a bit short-sighted. Elements of Black Sabbath and mid-nineties H.C. are contained within, along with some Unwound-y sounding stuff, even Moving Targets. The record was even recorded at Electrical Audiowith sorcerer, Jeremy Lemos behind the board. It's all served with an asswhup that is mercifully over in 35 minutes. A refreshing change from the usual maximizing of the medium that compels bands to release reams of unedited shite. Annnnnd: no frontman. A fucking power trio. It's a goddam patriotic duty to support these efforts. Do your part.
