Many many. Hope Sandoval, Sandy Denny, Nico, Roy Orbison, Beta Band. Gentle things, niggly things. Cocteau, still. The colour of the sky at 1/4 to ten at night. All the people making tunes that I love. Cherries, blueberries. Train journeys. Shooting 10 ducks to get a free laptop.

"An emerging artist worth watching... Something wonderful and unique." Wears The Trousers magazine
"Creating gently persuasive folk music that soothes the soul, Helen Lawson is a London based singer/songwriter with a natural gift for the beatific. CROSSING THE BRIDGE is a genuine thing of beauty, a quartet of songs with the spectral wonder of Nico and the folk prettiness of Vashti Bunyan.
Gently intoxicating, magical, hypnotic... a talent to cherish and adore." UK Music Review
"Fresh and inventive with some human insights that are deceptively brilliant." Don Black, legendary songwriter
"Helen Lawson is a closely-guarded secret for fans of Folk Pop - for now... Passionate folktronica with lo-fi charm." Stern.de
“Helen Lawson is a London singer-songwriter with an absolutely beautiful voice that feels like it belongs to some bygone decade… romantic, contemplative, it feels like being enfolded in a cool bath.” The Bringer of Song blog
"Each track is beautifully crafted and compliments a voice which at times is hypnotic, and on occasions both haunting and angelic." Paul Abraham - Keep Music Live
"A light and delicate album full of great hooks and well written lyrics - a great debut EP from a singer/songwriter with an excellent future." Seatwave
"It’s quite rare that I find a voice as captivating as Helen’s and I immediately loved it... The EP has a folky Cocteau Twin/Isobel Campbell vibe augmented with some sweet acoustic guitar, strong melodies and Helen’s shimmering voice." A Bulletproof Idea
I am Helen Lawson, singer-songwriter and occasional flyer of kites.
I record my songs in the kitchen, studios belonging to friends, and anywhere else that seems quiet enough.
When it is hot, my computer crashes in a sweltering heap of feedback and error messages. In emergencies such as this, an ingenious cooling system is at hand. A pile of CDs props up the laptop on either side, with a nice chilly bag of frozen peas nestling underneath. That cools things down a treat.
When it is cold, the computer is fine, but my toes turn white.
I used to spend much of my recording time trying to deal with the hum of the fridge and the rumble of the boiler. Now I venture forth from the kitchen more often, the fridge and boiler have to settle for a lesser role in the overall sound. They’re still there in the background though, if you listen closely…

Thanks for your continued support for our music and MySpace friendship!
Love the material, there's something really honest about just a gentle guitar and a voice. With my own stuff I unintentionally go for as big a noise as possible to try to distract from the fact I'm trying to sing! :S
Hi Helen, I'm sorry for the late reply, Many thanks for your comment! I love your music, acoustics always make a nice breath of fresh air. Hope all is well, Seb.
Hey Helen, thanks for the nice comment. Things are going well so far! Hope you're fine, too!! Maybe there will be a bridge from your end to my end :-). Regards from Germany, Cornerrock
Thanks for the lovely comments you left me. They really made my day. I am finding myself to be a hyooge fan of yours. Especially this town. Oh This town. What..................a ....................toon.!!!!!! It ticks all the boxes for me. The lyrics first and foremost are engaging and I find myself waiting patiently everytime for the chorus for that cheeky chord change where the shimmering cocteau twinesque guitar comes in. Oh I'm gushing but hey you rock buddy!!!
Don't be a stranger now, I should have some new tracks up over the next few months for your aural amusement.
hello helen thanks that you found me and thanks for the friendship here on myspace. its nice here. ; ) I really hope you like my music. greetings from Hamburg Lydia marlene =)
