Sounds Like"HoS take the shoegaze sound and channel it through some rock n' roll machine. Unlike so many bands that gaze to the pedals - HoS don't forget about the songs. The band have a rock n' roll backbone that is a joy to hear. They take their rock n' roll and then they shower it with noise - slightly underpowered vocals and layers of guitars literally come at you. Wave after wave of them." - Lostmusic.co.uk

Heroes of Switzerland - Comfort in Fear

Biography

We're nice people, but shit, it's about time we got some respect.

In the course of this band, we've been held at gunpoint, lost a drummer to a stroke hours before our first show and frequently survive days at work on minutes of sleep after gigs in some of the shittiest parts of the country. Dues have been paid.

We buck the trend and now’s the time for people to listen. We're not afraid to play our instruments properly, we're not afraid to have solos and we're not scared of rock. It's not prog, shoegaze or some conceptual bollocks from a bunch of art college students from Brighton, just because some songs have (tasteful) solos.

These are songs you'll remember, songs with enough depth that you’ll discover something else to love with every listen. Passion and meaning without pomposity. Stadium filling sounds to transport you.

It's time to end the hegemony of the bland and the talentless, the factory-farmed supermarket unit shifters and the tuneless over-hyped next-big-things. Let the sound of Heroes of Switzerland into your heart. You won’t look back.

Comfort In Fear is the debut album from Nottingham’s Heroes of Switzerland, covering a musical landscape from the driving woozy drones of My Bloody Valentine to the (guilty) pleasures of classic rock. On the way it takes in the basslines of Peter Hook & John Entwistle, the drums of Lars Ulrich & Dave Grohl, the guitar hooks of Alex Lifeson & Andy Summers and the vocals of Ian Curtis & Mark Gardener. Lyrical themes of pain, loss and fear collide with hope, beauty and post-Cold War paranoia.

Reference points include the obvious, such as Swervedriver,Ride and local contemporaries Amusement Parks on Fire, along with the more diverse: Rush, Metallica, the Stone Roses, the Verve. Hell, you might even find a lil’ bit of Whitesnake in there.

Heroes of Switzerland don't care about cool, they just want the good stuff. Acolytes of Doherty would probably break their own fingers trying to keep up.

From supporting Lift to Experience legend Josh T Pearson for Club AC30, Norwegian psych stars the Lionheart Brothers and local legends Six By Seven to gigs for Drowned in Sound and Goonite, HoS have been found rupturing the foundations of venues around the UK. Their debut EP, Disposable Fiction, has become a staple of Shoegaze Radio.

After releasing their debut EP Disposable Fiction, the Heroes completed their debut album Comfort in Fear, in March 2008 and have a track on the compilation Psychedelica Volume 2 for Northern Star Records. If you like the songs in the player above you can order Comfort in Fear here. If you're in the US, you may prefer to order from Tonevendor. The Disposable Fiction EP is still available here.

And hey, if you really like us, you can buy a Heroes t-shirt! (Currently only Large available)

Press

“The Nottingham four-piece have taken all of the great rock reference points from the late 80s through to the late 90s and combined them into one beguiling whole... this is a really good album... 8/10” - Classic Rock

"Absolutely cracking... sounds so little like anything else around... cult hero status all over it. 8/10" - Planet Sound C4 Teletext

"A remarkable collection of songs... your new favourite band may just be around the corner. 9/10" - Drowned in Sound

"Wall of sound award." - Mojo

"This is a band that has to be heard to be believed. This is a band that possesses originality." - Sandman

“Heroes of Switzerland exploit both lo-fi extremes and expansive stadium rock with little effort, plenty of atmospheric angst and this rather monstrous collection of angular rock landscapes. 4/5" - Manchester Music

"...guitar slinging messiahs... quite perfect." - Losing Today

"JD-fuelled balls-out rock'n'roll excess and fey multi-layered introspection..." - The Fly

People----People------People, all you beautiful people that have graced my life with loving kindness and many other shiny parts of excellence. I need your help at least once more--------I need yo to be my angels once more and give my biggest dream of all time hope------------------------Help Me to breathe life into a future I almost overlooked. Sometimes your heart and mind have trouble matching up until its too late, but I refuse to believe its too late. I refuse to believe my miracle has run away----I just think it needs more of a push into the light but all you people have to help me LET THIS LIGHT SHINE!
My name is Sharee Marquette Givens and I wish from this day forward for Johnny Alpha to be my other half. I propose marriage before any part of the world that will take notice of this. I have fallen in love with this man and I didn't notice at first because I was too busy talking and not feeling it all at the same time, but now my soul adds up completely with my heart and I AM READY-----I AM READY TO HOLD HIM FOR THIS LIFETIME AND IN DEATH AND THE REBIRTH IN HEAVEN AS WELL.
So everyone, visit his website on MySpace at : myspace.com/johnnyalphaxxx
Tell him to marry Sharee Givens and say a few reasons why you believe he should. Please. And also ask of me whatever you will.
XOXOXOXOXOXO

My name is Sharee Marquette Givens and I am my own worst enemy, a stranger to myself but I am still me. What do I mean by saying this?

On March 3rd,2004 a tumor was discovered in the third ventricle of my brain which is a fancy way of saying THE MIDDLE OF MY HEAD---and back then I went through some painful procedures because after getting a hole poked in the tumor so the fluid could circulate correctly in my head, they left a tube in my head and everytime I layed down it felt like a kick in the back of my head-----it was horrible but when I walked out the door after more then a week later everybody including me thought the worst was over and I was ok for the next 3 years but with minor headaches.

But around 3 years and a half later the tumor grew again and just this year of 2008-----it is a pretty big beast sitting in my head right now like a ticking time bomb. I thought it would disappear and so did the doctors. So-----I may have to go the route I do not wish to go. I might have to do radiation due to the fact that the MIDDLE OF YOUR BRAIN is surrounded by blood vessels and you have about a 2 percent chance to live with regular surgery and even though radiation sucks-----it has a higher percentage of working.

Tumors are a common thing----Cancer is a common thing, but real friends are not-----Real friends come once in a lifetime and I pray that all of you are MY WONDERFUL GIFT OF ONCE IN A LIFETIME and I take this moment to BLESS YOU ALL!!!

And PLEASE PRAY FOR ME-----IT WILL HELP ME COMPLETELY!!!!!

Your Bud Bud,
Sharee Marquette Givens of Waterloo,Iowa
