  • Bio

Heterogene are: .. Ryan Holiday- vocals, guitar .. Aaron Potocny- drums, keys .. Rich Sarnicola- guitar, keys .. Chris Newman- Bass, keys .. But enough of the obvious answers. Heterogene are a reaction against the formulaic, cookie-cutter acts that pass for alternative rock these days. They are the voice for hopeless dreamers in dead-end jobs, over-sexed bartenders, uptight computer programmers, day-job misfits, apartment-dwellers in crappy suburban towns, and discerning tape-heads everywhere. They are also four accomplished musicians who love what they do, and who are determined to get their sound out into the world. .. Heterogene's frontman, Ryan Holiday, was raised in Heidelberg, Germany, the son of a white, German secretary and a black, American Sergeant. He began his musical odyssey at three years, when he first chewed on one of his father's Jerry Reed albums. As a tender seventeen-year-old, he left home for the US, the plasticity of LA, and (eventually) New York mayhem. In 1999, he colluded with Jersey-bred drummer Aaron Potocny and founded the cult band In Between Blue. Signed by Orchard Records and produced by Richard Gottehrer (Blondie, Go-Gos), In Between Blue established a moderately-sized, but enthusiastic, fan base through a series of dynamic performances in the Northeastern US. .. Once In Between Blue had run its course, Holiday and Potocny decided they hadn't had enough of each other after all. Potocny went back to his roots, recruiting childhood friend Chris Newman and local musician Rich Sarnicola to play bass and guitar, respectively. Combined, the four have been playing for about 280 years; they still look pretty good, though. .. Musically Heterogene exhibit a respect for variety and adventure. When you listen to the music you could find roots in New Wave, Electro, space rock, prog rock and ambient. While they don't buy into trends, they have successfully managed to finesse a distinctive sound that honors all of their influences without ripping any off. .. Heterogene's double-album debut, AM-PM, was born out of a need for artistic control, coupled with an eagerness to explore the future of music distribution. In 2005 the band entered the studio with producer John Seymour (Mighty Bosstones) in hopes of creating something special. Although the entities eventually parted ways, Heterogene's creative fuse had been lit. They took matters into their own hands: AM-PM was recorded, mixed, and produced in the band's own studio, in a year's worth of overnight sessions. It wouldn't have taken them nearly as long if they had been able to quit their crappy day jobs, but thats another story altogether. .. The members of Heterogene did not grow up together, nor did they cut their teeth on the same musical influences. They didn't even speak the same language. Separated by continents and diverse tastes, Heterogene is defined by aberrations. AM-PM is what can happen when those differences are respected, explored, and tinkered with. .. Heterogene's album AM-PM is available online at iTunes, insound, Rhapsody, Heterogenemusic.com and the band's live shows. .. .. .. .. ....
