Hild Sofie Tafjord, performer and composer( born Jan.4th 1974 in Ålesund, Norway),

plays frenchorn, electronics, and various instruments,

She comes from the island Sula on the west-coast of Norway.

She finished her studies in jazz and improvised music at the Norwegian State Academy of Music in Oslo 2001. Frenchorn is her main instrument.

She has made music for dance, film, theater, installations/ sculptures, done performances, workshops and site specific concerts.

She has played concerts, toured and worked with musicians and artists in Europe, Amerika, Canada and Asia.

She is released at a.o. Rune Grammofon, Asphodel, ECM, Universal, Moserobie, Jazzland, Important Records, Psychform Records, Gameboy Records, OHM records

Her range as a performer spans from electronic noise to acoustic horn. She plays mostly free improvised music, but is also working as an electronic music composer.

Since 1995 she has been exploring unusual playing techniques to extend the language of the horn and to find the sonic possibilities of this specific instrument. The use of electronics are a natural extension in search of other sounds and in making multilayered music. She also uses other instruments such as metal objects, pan pipe, recorders, mbira, crap/contact microphones etc.

Her music is consisting of acoustic and electronic sound-sources, analogue and digital electronics, processed sounds and concrete sounds.

Solo project:

Tafjord has done several solo concerts the past years an will release her first solo album KAMA at Picadisc(Lasse Marhaug) in fall 2007
