The Police, The Red Hot Chili Peppers,
Toots and the Maytals,
Steely Dan, Crosby Stills & Nash,
FELA KUTI, Max Tundra,
Phoenix and the taste of really really good, expensive food...
Four Irish lads
who have practically begun to call America home - the last 12 months things
have really taken off for Hoarsebox. A second USA tour in October
2008 brought them to established NYC venues such as Mercury Lounge, Arlene's
Grocery and Pianos.
Since those dates, a US industry scrum erupted for the band and they returned
to the US in April 09 for another tour, including a sold-out show at Arlene's
Grocery NYC (it was only their 2nd time playing there). They also played the
West Coast for the first time including a very successful date at the famous
Hotel Café in Hollywood.
In addition to generous comment from Rolling Stone and Music
Connection, Hoarsebox were selected as Clear Channel's
“Artist to Watch” for the month of May 2009. September was also
a great month as they played two dates in Dublin for Arthurs Day and also launched
their brand new iPhone Application. They are the first band in Ireland to launch
their own specific App – go check it out at iTunes. November sees them
working on new material ahead of their album recording in Mississippi in February
2010 with the producer of Modest Mouse, The Hives, Ben Folds and many others.
"One of Ireland's
most interesting live acts” – The Irish Star
“As pop songs go, this is a peach. If you didn't know they were
a Dublin quartet, you'd never guess it. This fruity single lifted from
their EP Cuckooland, sounds a little like Supertramp's and Steely Dan's
tasty left-overs. Harmonies are intricate, melodies are chirpy, the sun is shining.
No wonder Rolling Stone are raving about these Dublin guys.” – TV
Now
“Rosey demands your attention right from the beginning. This feel-good
song is part rock, part soul with shed loads of energy…………The
boppy b-side, 'Do it to the Letter' solidifies the band's winning formula. The
choral vocals combined with punchy guitar and piano will have you tapping, clapping
and singing along all night” – State Magazine Ireland
