About me:
.. I am currently living in BABS, my veggie-powered motor coach, traveling all over the United States on a personal photo project called Vanishing America.

America as we know it, is changing fast...

Using photography as a medium of preservation, I am traveling across America to capture those unique aspects of American culture and landscape that are in serious danger of disappearing forever. Vanishing America is equal parts fine art photography and photojournalism specifically designed to capture the beauty and enchantment of the unique elements of our history and culture that are in danger of disappearing within the next two to three generations.

My journey to becoming a photographer began at a young age while growing up in rural Alpharetta, a small town outside Atlanta, Georgia. As a young boy I watched helplessly as, one by one, the wild lands I and my friends cherished vanished underneath the juggernaut of progress and development.

At ten years old I earned my first camera selling greeting cards to the people in my neighborhood. I would go on to earn my Bachelor of Fine Arts in Photography from the University of Georgia. Later, I moved to San Diego and made my living working in a camera store while photographing unique architecture in the area as a hobby. My images of the restoration of the historic North Park Theater caught the eye of the publishers at San Diego Magazine which hired me for other stories.

After years working as a freelance photographer and several gallery showings in the San Diego area, I began to feel the encroachment of urban life once again, craving to be in the great outdoors.

In the summer of 2007 I set forth from Southern California in a state-of-the-art Winnebago, heading up to Redding, CA to pick up my converted Land Rover. Both the RV and the Land Rover will run on vegetable oil and bio-diesel. I live full-time with my two cats, Reggie and Missy, in this beautiful 32 foot motor home stocked with the some of the best cameras and computers available. The RV is fully equipped with its own satellite for anytime anywhere internet and phone access.

The Vanishing America Project will be a multi-year adventure crisscrossing the United States and promises not only amazing documented images but memorable encounters with fascinating everyday people who are the fabric of this nation.
