....HONEYBUG.... .."The first band to send our collective thumbs aloft were the Edinburgh collective: ..Honeybug... This 7 piece fit into an unusual and select niche only previously reserved for the likes of Curt Boettcher (Sagittarius, Millennium California, & Association), Harpers Bizarre, the Merry-Go-Around, the Turtles and Yellow Balloon... .."Their harmony-drenched soft pop, the level of sophistication and interweave is an awfully rare beast, even in the phenomenal world of powerpop. Thus it was truly a delight to experience their aural brilliance for the first time, from the delightful first song ..'Time'.. which featured just Ni's piano and the band's glorious voices, to ..'Anything For You'.. from their Naked Songs EP.

Although their own material is very strong, it's arguable whether the real highlights were their crowd pleasing rendition of Jellyfish's ..'That Is Why'.. and later and even better known, the Buggles ..'Video Killed the Radio Star'... Both were nigh on perfect, particularly the Jellyfish cover which was frankly awe inspiring... .."We are indebted to Debbie's Twitterfriend, Anne-Marie for the recommendation and an introduction to main man Nigel Frayling-Kelly.".. ......Power Pop Review - June 2009...... .... .. .."Next up for us was Honeybug (www.myspace.com/honeybug) from Edinburgh, filling the back stage in the Cavern Club. With Honeybug, you never quite know what to expect, nor how big the band is going to be. This year they were a 7-piece, including 3 backing vocalists. The guitarist with the band, Ramage, is probably the best guitarist at the whole IPO this year. It might have been a computerised guitar but it was used to the best possible effect, and the guy really could play. Ni, the lead man is a dead ringer for a Peter Kay character, with the personality to go with it. Their set was mainly their own excellent material but did also include a fabulous cover of Jellyfish's ..'That Is Why'.. and rounded off their set with a totally awesome version of ..'Video Killed The Radio Star'... This was maybe the best reaction any band got to any song through the whole IPO. This band was made for the Back Stage.".. ......Minty And The Beeb Go Gigging - May 2009...... .... .... .."Masters of self-re-invention, you never know what this band from Edinburgh has up their collective sleeves. Most typically appearing as a kick-ass fizzy pop four-piece, they've been known to expand to a 7-piece harmony-soul-pop combo, complete with production and dance moves worthy of Motown back in the day! Fans of artists from Elton John to Jellyfish to Prince and Al Green will be thrilled to know a CD is in the works!".. ......International Pop Overthrow.. As a result of being as bigger in the States than they were in their native Scotland, the old acoustic three-piece lineup of Honeybug (Ni, Jenna and Heidi) jetted across the Atlantic in October 2006 to play some shows to their friends and fans in Dallas (Texas) and launched their new EP "Naked Songs Vol. 1" while they were there. The CD of Honeybug's material stripped right down to 3 voices, a piano and a flute is still available.

On the CD:

  • Whole
  • Night Shift
  • Anything For You
  • Whole (Radio Edit)
That's 3 A-sides and a radio edit, not to mention a full transcription of all the lyrics on the inside of the inlay for just £4.50 and that includes postage and packing. Don't say we're not good to you!
