Hoodgrown Magazine
Hood Grown’s purpose is to cover urban music in a street oriented, yet intelligent manner with content driven by artist, music, and African American and Latino culture as it pertains to the art form.
We publish a web magazine as well as a print magazine which will resume publication in March 2008. The magazine is 36 pages, features full colours covers on 80lb glossy paper, with full color insides on 70lb glossy paper, and is published quarterly.
One of the unique aspects of Hood Grown magazine is that it fosters the discovery of new music and artist whether they’re on a major or independent music label. Hood Grown is one of the few magazines where you’ll see major artists featured along side independent artists with no separation based on the celebratory status of their record label. The magazine’s specialty is featuring unknown upcoming labels, artists, & producers exposing them to an audience that might have little knowledge of them.

Launched as a joint venture between Hoodgrown Magazine/Universal Indie Records and Double-Up Entertainment, HoodgrownTV(Hoodgrown TV) is an online video on demand service that aggregates Urban related streaming video from multiple sources and ties them together under one roof.
“We’re not the first Urban video content aggregator to launch, he difference is that a lot of the others tend to cater to the lowest denominator focusing on things that don’t display the urban community in the most positive light.” said Chris English, chief executive officer of HoodgrownTV. “While our site will contain some of the more controversial content that’s not the main goal of our site.”
The site also features podcasts and will help to promote independent urban artists. For users, the service is free and ad-supported, with optional registration.
Universal Indie Records
Universal Indie is an online record label launched by the creators of HoodGrown Magazine and Musica360.com to leverage the power of the internet to market and promote quality music to the consumer. Digital music is the future: with sales of downloaded music and mp3 players skyrocketing and more people discovering new music by utilizing the internet, Universal Indie is poised to take advantage of the latest on-line and mobile communications technologies.
Our primary marketing channel is through the Internet and we execute a comprehensive on-line marketing and promotional campaign, including but not limited sales through 3rd party vendors, street teams, viral marketing, web based videos, online reviews and features.
Unlike other “e-labels” Universal Indie treats it’s digital release in the same way that we would a release on cd. All of our releases are mastered and provided with hi-resolution album art.
Universal Indie Artists Universal Indie’ artists: retain ownership of their masters and copyrights and receive 50% of all sales of releases not provided as free downloads.
Music Distribution In this new and exciting age Universal Indie will be experimenting with other music distribution models such as “pay what you think it’s worth” and “advertiser supported” methods .
Universal Indie Releases We don’t add any DRM (Digital Rights Management) to the audio files sold through our site. All files are sold as open ended mp3s which can be burned to cd or transfered to almost any digital audio player without hassle.
