my core bandmates are long-time pal gary paredes (lead guitar), doug osburn (bass), and pat tomek (drums and alter ego). chad rex helps me a lot on rhythm guitar, singing, and world view. a LOT of other k.c. musicians have lent their hand from time to time. pat does all my recording and provides all know-how. michelle sanders joins us onstage from time to time on percussion and harmonies.
Influences
god and country. just kidding---actually buddy holly and bob dylan. just kidding---actually the connells, magnetic fields, and mink deville.
i'm a songwriter in Kansas City on a non-stop recording project with the help of a bunch of my music pals. the Pitch was kind enough to name me Best Songwriter, in their Best of 2008 special issue. i plan to go out writing and recording, and I'll be changing the songs on this site from time to time, hopefully as a continuing source of irritation to my detractors.
the cd we released for the benefit of abigail henderson is now sold out. we appreciate all those who helped out in this matter. i don't have plans to do another printing, but if you need one, see me and i'll burn you a copy.
i've got a lotta songs partway done, and i'm gonna try to randomly put stuff up here, whether finished or not, on the theory that the song is the thing. so what you hear now may not sound like that later.
a lot of kansas city's best musicians have helped me flesh out some of these songs---too many to mention---but i specially wanna thank my band, and chad rex, mike ireland, dan mesh, brendan moreland, tony ladesich, betse ellis, michelle sanders, richard gintowt, rich burgess, and of course, you-know-who-you-are.
