"Imagine a scene where phuturistic Acid Dub pioneers like Gerald and Andy Weatherall enter the cartoonish world of Nu Pagadi, jump in Volk’s car, and enter a never-ending battle to beat their own personal best lap time. Illuminated Faces takes the dawn of rave as his starting point, before serenading it with sweet melodies, and by combining computer and his guitar, creates plenty vital proceedings, spreading smiles like Mexican waves. His influences include humour, clear skies and a whole host of musicians from the pie-eating, galosh-wearing isle of Ole Britannia. Tonight we’re gonna party like it’s 1989."
RBMA, 2007
Illuminated Faces is a brainchild of only one person - Roman Tsepelev. In 2006 his first CD "Roadbag" was released on St. Petersburg label "Extra Music", and got a good press. A year later Roman became a winner of an annual "Red Bull Music Academy" contest. Promoters of the contest compared Illuminated Faces tracks with the music of such acid-dub pioneers like Gerald and Andy Weatherall.
Also Roman appeared on the "Afisha picnic festival" (Moscow), "Stereoleto" (St. Petersburg), microfestival "Howdoyoudo" in Shanti club (Moscow), made remixes of Two Lone Swordsmen and Modul. Illuminated Faces tracks were played on Radio 1 (Prague) and in Tomas Felman's (The Orb) radio program. Broad musical outlook is unquestionable Roman's merit - he willingly experiments with broken rhythms, sentimental melodies and airy ambient landscapes.
Hey, hope you don't mind a shameless plug for my latest release. "Occam's Razor" is my 2nd album, and it's up for free download on my page! I've worked and poured myself into this project so much for the last 3 months, so I hope you enjoy it, and I would love to hear back about it :)
