IMANI HEKIMA- keyboards/lead vocals (and all vocals/instruments on the recordings heard here), STUART MITCHELL- drums, TOBIE CARPENTER- guitars, PHILIPPE CLEGG- bass
Influences
The Specials, Bob Marley, UB40, Sly and Robbie, Scientist, Stevie Wonder, Curtis Mayfield, Erykah Badu, Lauryn Hill, India.Arie- and many others.
Imani's songs stem from a wealth of musical and life experience. As keyboardist/main songwriter with Bradford ska/reggae outfit Spectre in the 1980s, the band earned support slots to Lee Scratch Perry, Augustus Pablo, Aswad, Junior Delgado, Eek a Mouse & The Redskins. An accomplished pianist, he also has a BA honours degree in music and taught piano privately throughout the 1990s.
He began gigging as a solo artist in the early Noughties, briefly as part of all sibling trio Real Eyez, who supported Dennis Rollins. As if to underline his versatility, Imani also gigs as a solo pianist performing Hindi film songs as instrumentals at Asian weddings and concerts (including a recent support slot to acclaimed Asian artist Raghav- see www.myspace.com/bollywoodpiano)
He plans to self release his debut album in 2009, co-produced with his close friend Chris Thomas (Soulfunktion Productions)- a chance to share his soulful and socially conscious work with a wider audience. Thanks to Jack Eames for the photography, check him at www.jackeames.com. You can find Imani on Facebook too. FRIEND REQUESTS NOTE: Please include a message with your invite, it will most likely be ignored otherwise.

You are most welcome King, and thanks for stopping by my little space.
To the center, I`ve attempted to decipher, feather-dusting the artifact known as my optimism in hopes of finding a cell still breathing even slightly by which to regenerate a few dead cells. To begin from the simplest of organisms, returning to the mental bliss that occurs by way of figurative rainbows over the hill your`e standing on.
In your music, I have felt the promise of better days. And I thank you, pray for your continued insight, and wish for your Eternal Enlightenment.
So, you can always find me somewhere on your road, heading toward the general direction of your spectrum....
I thought, perhaps, that it was the spring weather, hearkening back to days of my youth. My ignorance, my innocence. Same thing? All depends. I even began to imagine that it was the meditation that greets my mornings before I begin my day. Introspection can be refreshing can`t it? When it came down to it, I knew that it was something else.
Having my Spirit blessed by a Beautiful Mind & Soul is more invigorating that I would give credit to until I heard your songs. As I've heard it said, "the most beautiful things in life can neither be seen or heard, they must be felt." Like understanding that the potential lies in something, but never being certain of its fruition in one's lifetime. It was affirmed at the click of a mouse, it seems. I should never assume......indeed.
May you continue to be a vessel of truth and a reservoir of love, and may wisdom flow from your lips like breath itself.
