"Brooklyn quartet In Flight Radio's blend of angular, atmospheric alt-rock has been perfected on their sophomore effort The Sound Inside...Their latest song "Red Flags" takes elements of their 2006 self-titled indie release, shoegaze, brit-pop, and a recently added guitar player to fatten up their sound to epic proportions. Enlisting the help of Brian Fulk (Martha Wainwright), frontwoman Peira's soft and lustrous vocals are a fine complement to the angular, yet melodious power chords. Imagine a more effeminate Coldplay."
FILTER
"Defying the low-fi indie rock stance of their fellow New York rockers (yes, most Big Apple rockers still aspire to be the next Strokes and/or Ramones), In Flight Radio is indeed a diamond in the rough on their delightfully overbearing sophomore effort. Akin to the big, brawny guitar driven bands of the UK (think Radiohead, The Doves, Stereophonics, and Oasis in the rare instances when they're not pilfering from their '60s ancestors) the Radio sum is far greater than the parts, which ain't bad either. Singer Peira hits all the high notes with the confidence of a veteran arena rocker while her mates, guitarist Saric, bassist Devin Krug, and drummer Mike Dawson keep it massive yet simple. The pop hooks are in great supply, especially in the punky "Somewhere In Between" and the anthemic stomper "Please." And in the modus operandi of all the aforementioned references, In Flight Radio has a flair for the dramatic as witnessed in the aptly titled "Yelling Up To The Sky" wherein Peira soars whilst the band damn-near blows the doors down. Move over Bono, you've got competition."
Tom Semioli, AMPLIFIER MAGAZINE
"Peira’s pliable vocals that take the music from a whisper to a scream, often within the expanse of a single song...Peira’s performances elevate these compositions to the extraordinary."
PERFORMING SONGWRITER
"If only such sweet, sincere songs pumped through the soundsystem on a sardine-can airplane ride!...Album opener and stand-out track "Red Flags" starts off with far-reaching vocals before clambering into a somber dream-pop opus. Equally textured and enticing are the power-chord tracks that follow, like "Somewhere In Between" and "Finish Line," and the tunes on which Peira's soft vocals dominate, like the guitar-light "I Am Not Awake." With a large, sweeping sound, The Sound Inside functions as a catch-all for fans that dig both the infectious hooks of radio-friendly rock and the intimacy of female singer-songwriters."
Lisa Hresko, CMJ.COM
"In Flight Radio's second album, The Sound Inside, is a glorious amalgamation of rooted indie-rock, sensational British anthems and a little bit of Brooklyn sunshine thrown in for good measure. This cool new album is a much needed breath of fresh air in the music world. It's traditional rock rhythm's and lead singer Peira's soaring vocals create a sensation of pure musical bliss. This is one band that has hit the mark. "

"“What U2 should be.” Pete Harris, INDIE SOUNDS NY
In Flight Radio has created waves with their 2008 sophomore release 'The Sound Inside' - building a dedicated Northeastern fanbase, and receiving accolades from national magazines, including Performing Songwriter, Filter, CMJ, and Amplifier. "The thing that we always hear is we've got that big British rock sound, but the female vocal changes it up for everybody," explains the group's Brooklyn-born singer and guitarist, Peira. "I definitely think that helps us stand out. Plus, there aren't any divas in this band - no rock star egos. There's not a single perfectly messy, shaggy hairdo on stage when we play."The band's members are undeniably influenced by modern American indie rock, but have an equal fondness for the atmospheric guitar work of British bands such as The Doves and Radiohead.
While there's no argument that the band's self titled debut album was promising and allowed the then trio to make a splash and build a name for themselves, the group grew exponentially with the release of their sophomore album. "With our debut, we had a different line-up, basically a different band all together," explains Peira. "Devin [Krug] and I, the bass player, have always played together but the first incarnation of the band was as a trio. We added another guitar player [Peru native Saric], and Mike Dawson took over as our drummer." With the internal restructuring, Peira's knack for writing sweeping and memorable songs was supported by a more confident and weighty group of musicians. "This group of people has created a new energy, and the music is coming out so much better. I'm so proud of the music on 'The Sound Inside,' and feel that it much more expresses who I am, and who we all are musically."
In September 2007, the quartet entered the studio, and as the songs took shape, the band found their engineer - Brian Fulk (Martha Wainwright) at Brooklyn's Monkey Boy Studios proved to be a perfect fit. With the pieces all in place, the album was completed by mid-December
On April 15th 2008, 'The Sound Inside' (Last Broadcast Records) was born and the world took notice. iTunes featured the album in "What's Hot" on the rock home page and Myspace featured the band in their Snocap featured download. Performing Songwriter featured In Flight Radio as a Top DIY Pick and Filter said that "Brooklyn quartet In Flight Radio's blend of angular, atmospheric alt-rock has been perfected on their sophomore effort The Sound Inside."
In Flight Radio spent the rest of '08 racking up road miles, playing clubs all over the east coast and outdoor festivals in front of thousands. As for what's in store for the band, they are currently working on new music to be released in 2009. "We just want to play live and create new music as much as possible. And just have fun too - enjoy it. When we're 90, we want to know we had fun."
In Flight Radio has arrived at a place where they feel they can stay true to their indie-rock roots, while also touching on the British rock anthems and shoegazing textures that they grew up listening to. It's a sound that can be felt as well as heard. It truly is The Sound Inside.
