Through harmony and intricate musical arrangements, Inoculist crafts an uncompromising scape of eerie pop, jazz progressions, and the swing of old world rhythm and blues. Started as the home recording project of John Hunter (guitar, vocals) in 2005, Inoculist is a band constantly in the mode of creation. Inoculist currently operates as a four-piece with Ashlyn Davis (keys,vocals), Ethan Schmid (drums, banjo), and Marc Merza (bass).
Free Press Houston called Inoculist’s performance at SXSW in 2009 “a treat….John Hunter’s baritone found its perfect compliment with Ashlyn Davis’ soft understated voice…”. The Village Voice has pegged Inoculist as “somewhere between Low and the post-Vashti folkaverse-stark guitars abedded by syrupy swirls, glockenspiels, and perfect “off” guy-girl harmonies like Richard and Linda or John and Exene”.
Their new 7" will be released on August 14th by Heartbreak Beat Records, featuring "Provenance". “Provenance” serves as a fitting introduction, containing all Inoculist’s signature elements: original and unusual melodic arrangements, beautiful dark vocal
harmonies, and an attention to song craft that unfolds with each listen. The split EP will be released as a 7” in a limited edition of 350.
